      Sound Problems with ESS688 Sound Card and ES16880 Chip Set
                           in WIN-OS/2

DESCRIPTION

Installed OS/2 Warp and supplied Windows drivers for the ESS688. OS/2 
sounds are fine, but Windows sounds do not exist or are at a very low 
volume.

RESOLUTION

The Windows drivers that come with OS/2 Warp do not work. You must 
download updated Windows drivers from the ESS BBS (510-226-1937). Use 
GUEST as the logon name and password. Download the following files:

* ESS688.ZIP  2-7-96 v2.01: Updated Windows 3.1 drivers that add
  support for Advanced Power Management (suspend/resume)

* AA305D1.ZIP and AA305D2.ZIP: Installation bundle and multiple utility
  programs, including a mixer.

Follow the instructions that come with these files. You then should
have sound at the correct volume level.

Note: You also should consider downloading the following files
      for further support and utility programs:

      * ARWIN31.ZIP: Executable file.
      * ARWIN31.DOC: README file.
      * ARW31MAN.ZIP: Manual.
      * Windows Audio Rack: Mixer

      Note: The preceding files are password-protected. Get the
            password from ESS.

      * 688OS2.ZIP: Updated OS/2 drivers.

Follow the installation instructions that come with the files.
