OSMMHOYL - HOYLE CLASSIC GAMES BY SIERRA GENERATES A GENERAL PROTECTION FAULT 05/16/96 ======================================================================= Hoyle Classic Games by Sierra Generates a General Protection Fault ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION During installation of the CD-ROM version of Hoyle Classic Games, a General Protection Fault is generated in SETUP.EXE at location 0003:2c63. This occurs whenever the application's minimum system requirement test is run on the CD-ROM drive. Because the CD-ROM hardware test fails, you are unable to install Hoyle from the CD-ROM. RESOLUTION You can request the diskette version of the game or the manual installation instructions from Sierra, or you can run the game from the CD-ROM. Run the Game from the CD-ROM ---------------------------- Execute SIERRA.EXE from the Windows command line. To enhance performance when running from the CD-ROM, do the following: 1. Change the Settings to: DOS_FILES = 30 DOS_HIGH = ON DOS_UMB = ON DPMI_DOS_API = ENABLE DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT = 64 EMS_MEMORY_LIMIT = 4096 HW_TIMER = ON IDLE_SECONDS = 60 IDLE_SENSITIVITY = 100 INT_DURING_IO = ON SESSION_PRIORITY = 32 XMS_MEMORY_LIMIT = 4096 2. Decrease delay time between processes or Timer clicks: [timer.drv] TIMERMax386Res=1 TIMERMax286Res=1 Default setting for TIMERMax statements is 10 3. Increase buffer sizes allocated for CD-ROM: Change: IFS=C:\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS /Q To: IFS=C:\OS2\BOOT\CDFS.IFS /C:16 /M:32 /Q For an explanation of the /C and /M: switches, type HELP CDFS.IFS at an OS/2 command prompt; then double-click on arguments. Sixteen (16) and thirty-two (32),respectively, are the maximum values for these switches. Note: If you use the disk install, be sure to select NO when asked if you want to test the hardware. Do NOT click on the CD-ROM hardware test when the hardware test panel is displayed.
