OSMMWARP - OS/2 WARP MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATION MANAGER/2 (MMPM/2) 10/23/96 ======================================================================= OS/2 Warp 3 Multimedia Presentation Manager/2 (MMPM/2) ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION This document provides information for OS/2 Warp 3 MMPM/2 and its new features. If you are using an unsupported sound card, you must contact the manufacturer for support. Only the audio cards listed are supported under OS/2 Warp and MMPM/2. RESOLUTION Note: Make sure you have a backup of any file you intend to change. Installation MMPM/2 is fully integrated into Selective Install. If you want to install a feature of MMPM/2, you must use Selective Install. Do not run MINSTALL.EXE from an OS/2 Window session. MMPM/2 installation automatically detects supported devices in the system. It does not, however, automatically configure IRQ, DMA, and I/O settings. You must know which settings to use based on the jumpers set on the devices. To see the IRQ, DMA, or I/O currently in use: 1. Open an OS/2 Window session. 2. At the command prompt, type the following and press Enter: RMVIEW /xxx where xxx is IRQ, DMA, or IO. Supported Hardware Supported devices in OS/2 Warp MMPM/2 are as follows. Sound Blaster * Sound Blaster 8-bit (SBD2.SYS)--DSP Chip MUST be 2.0 * Sound Blaster MCV 8-bit (SBD2.SYS)--DSP Chip MUST be 2.0 * Sound Blaster Pro 8-bit OPL2 (SBPD2.SYS) * Sound Blaster Pro 8-bit OPL3 (SBP2D2.SYS) * Sound Blaster Pro MCV 8-bit (SBP2D2.SYS) * Sound Blaster 16 16-bit (SB16D2.SYS)--All Models * Sound Blaster AWE 32 16 bit (SBAWED2.SYS)--Wave Table Media Vision * Pro AudioSpectrum 16 16-bit (MVPRODD.SYS) * Pro Audio Studio 16-bit (MVPRODD.SYS) * JAZZ 16 16-bit (JAZZDD.SYS) Sound Galaxy * Sound Galaxy Nova 16 Extra 16-bit IBM Sound Card * M-AUDIO 16-bit (ACPADD.SYS) Additional Supported Hardware * AudioDrive (ESS 688) * Business Audio (AD1848) * Compaq Business Audio * IBM ThinkPad Audio (see http://www.pc.ibm.com/support/tps/tpos2.html) * M&M Basic--OmniComp * Super VideoWindows--New Media Graphics * Toshiba T4700C * Toshiba T6600C * Video Blaster * Video Clipper * Video Magic--Samsung * Reel Magic Video/Audio--Sigma Designs * Wave Watcher--AITech * WIN/TV--Hauppauge System Sounds * Sounds repeating after startup or during playback of WAV file: - Always IRQ conflicts. Refer to the documentation to find the IRQ settings for devices installed on your system. * No system sound, or the system locks up, after MMPM/2 installation: 1. Make sure IRQs, DMAs, and I/O addresses are not being shared by other devices. Note: Make sure address 330 is not being used by any other device. Address 330 is used by the sound card for the MIDI port. Usually Adaptec cards use this address. 2. Check jumpers on the sound card. Make sure they match what you selected for the card during Selective Install of Multimedia. Check the CONFIG.SYS file. 3. Make sure the correct card was selected during Selective Install of Multimedia. * SYS1201 error on sound-card driver after MMPM/2 installation: 1. Make sure the card is installed in the system. 2. Make sure you are using a card that MMPM/2 supports. 3. If you are using a Sound Blaster (8-bit), make sure the card is using the DSP 2.0 chip. The DSP chip is labeled CT 1351. 4. Make sure the correct card was selected during Selective Install of Multimedia. Run RMVIEW to check resources currently used in OS/2. * WAV files sounds are truncated: Check the DEVICE statement for the sound card in the CONFIG.SYS file. For example: DEVICE=C:\MMOS2\SBP2D2.SYS 1 1 5 220 4 /N:SBAud1$ 4 is the buffer value and can be changed to 2, 4, 6, or 8. Make sure you are using the latest MMPM/2 drivers for your sound card. Contact the manufacturer of the drivers. MMPM/2 Mini-Applications * The following error is received when starting the Digital Audio program: Desired action not supported or card may be defective. - This is usually a hardware conflict. Check the IRQs, DMAs, and I/O addresses. - Another session or application might be using the sound card. Device-sharing is not allowed. * When playing software motion video (AVI) from CD-ROM, video is slow or jumpy: If you are using a CD-ROM that is connected to the CD Interface of a supported sound card: a. Make sure you are using the latest driver from the manufacturer (TMV1SCSI.ADD and SBCD2.ADD). b. Make sure you are running at the highest resolution and have at least 1 MB of memory on the video card. Other Problems * After installing MMPM/2, you can no longer get your DOS applications to produce sound on a Sound Blaster adapter: 1. Install the DOS drivers for the card. 2. Make sure the IRQs, DMAs, and I/O addresses match what was set during MINSTALL. 3. From a DOS Full Screen session, go to the directory that was created for the DOS drivers. 4. Run SBMIDI. 5. Go to the PLAYMIDI directory. At the command prompt, type PLAYMIDI JAZZ and press Enter. 6. This plays a MIDI file and initializes the sound card. 7. Press Esc to stop the MIDI file from playing, and run the executable file for the game. * You have MMPM/2 installed and go to a DOS Full Screen session and play a game. When you exit, the system sounds begin to repeat or loop: There is an IRQ conflict. Make sure IRQs, DMAs, and I/O addresses match what is in the CONFIG.SYS file for the MMPM/2 driver for the sound card. Tips ReelMagic 1. MMPM/2 supports MPEG playback using ReelMagic. You must select both ReelMagic Audio and ReelMagic Video. 2. Sound Blaster cards are the only cards under OS/2 that support MPEG Audio. 3. If you are using a ReelMagic card in their system, run in 640x480 resolution at 256 colors. Higher color modes give unpredictable results. This is a hardware limitation of the ReelMagic card. Digital Video Digital Video supports playback of AutoDesk 3D FLC and FLI formats. It also provides playback of audio with the file. If you want to play an AutoDesk file and also have an audio file to play with it, you must: 1. Have an FLC or FLI file on the hard disk; for example, TEST.FLI. 2. Have a WAV file with the same name as the AutoDesk File in the same directory; for example, TEST.WAV. 3. Open Digital Video and select File open; then load TEST.FLI and select Play. The movie starts and plays the WAV file with the same name. Note: AUDIO and VIDEO sync will not be working. If the FLI file is shorter than the WAV file, the audio continues after the movie stops. This is working as designed. You need to edit the WAV file to match the FLI length. ThinkPad Audio For current information, see the PC Help Center web page, http://www.pc.ibm.com/support/tps/tpos2.html or call the PCCO Support Center at 1-800-772-2227. WINOS2 Audio Support OS/2 Warp supplies the Windows drivers for the supported sound cards in MMPM/2. The sound card you select during MMPM/2 installation determines the Windows drivers copied to the hard disk. The drivers are not automatically installed in WIN-OS/2. You must open the Control Panel and select Drivers to install the Windows drivers. These drivers help you set up the WIN-OS/2 session with sound. If you have any problems with the drivers, contact the manufacturer of the sound card for support. The drivers are being supplied as-is. If you have a problem with the supplied Windows drivers, contact the respective manufacturer for the latest drivers. Removing MMPM/2 Do not use Selective Install or Selective Uninstall to remove MMPM/2. Use the following procedure instead. 1. Back up the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file. 2. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and remove all MMOS2 statements. 3. Delete the Multimedia folder. 4. Shut down the system and then restart it. 5. Remove the MMOS2 directory and subdirectories. 6. Run Selective Install to install MMPM/2. Contact the manufacturer for file updates and location. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
