OSOTHWDL - HARDWARE DETECTION LEVELS CANNOT BE MODIFIED 09/25/96 ======================================================================= Hardware Detection Levels Cannot be Modified ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION During startup of OS/2 Warp 4, you press Alt-F1 and choose the F6 option, Disable Hardware Detection. You then restart the machine and access Hardware Manager from the desktop. From the Hardware Manager Properties (Settings) menu, you attempt to modify the detection levels; however, these levels cannot be changed. RESOLUTION The most common cause of this problem is that the PREVIOUS.DAT file has been moved from the OS2\BOOT directory. Without this file in the proper directory, changes cannot be made to hardware detection. To remedy, be sure the PREVIOUS.DAT file is in OS2\BOOT directory. If you cannot find the PREVIOUS.DAT file, recreate it as follows: 1. Restart the system. When the small white rectangle appears in the upper left corner of the screen, press Alt-F1 to get to the Recovery Choices screen. 2. Press F5 to re-enable to Hardware Detection. 3. The PREVIOUS.DAT file is recreated on the next restart. warp4 ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
