OSOTICON - ICON EDITOR - ALL OS/2 RELEASES 01/05/96 ======================================================================== Icon Editor - All OS/2 Releases ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedure ------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION This document provides information about the Icon Editor that comes with OS/2. RESOLUTION Functionality ------------- The Icon Editor is a paint style application for creating, converting, or editing image files of bit maps, icons, or pointers. You can use up to two colors at a time by selecting the color on the palette and clicking mouse button 1 or 2. You can access the Icon Editor from the Productivity folder and the General page of the Settings notebook. Limitations ----------- * The Icon Editor might not load or edit a file saved in 2.0 format. Save the files in 1.2 format and you should be able to open and edit them. * When a large bit-map file (640x480x256) is opened, "The bitmap is too large to process" message appears. Select the OK push button to load the file. It takes several minutes for the file to load, and only a portion of the image is displayed. * When Save State on Exit is selected under Preference, the default options return when you restart the Icon Editor. * CTRL+S runs Save instead of Save As. Use the mouse and select Save As from the File menu. Creating a New Image File ------------------------- 1. Open OS/2 System. 2. Open Productivity. 3. Select Icon Editor. 4. Select File on the menu bar; then select New. 5. Select the type of figure you want to create; then select OK. 6. Create the image on the pad. Saving an Image File -------------------- 1. Select File from the menu bar. 2. Select Save from the pull-down menu. 3. Type the file name. Icon files use the ICO extension, bit-map files use the BMP extension, and pointer files use the PTR extension. 4. Select the drive and directory for the file. 5. Select the Save push button. 6. Select the format for the file (1.2 is suggested). 7. Select the form; then select the Save push button. Opening an Image File for Editing --------------------------------- 1. Select Icon Editor in the Productivity folder. 2. Select File from the menu bar. 3. Select Open from the File menu. 4. Select the drive and directory where the file is located. The file list displays file names. 5. Select the file to open. 6. Select the Open push button. Replacing an Object Icon ------------------------ 1. Point at the the icon to be changed; then click once with mouse button 2. 2. Select Setting to open the Settings notebook. 3. Select the General tab to go to the correct page. 4. Change the icon: * Drag and drop the new icon over top of the current icon displayed on the General page, or * Select Find and type the folder name and path of the image file for Name; then select Find.
