OSOTWNFI - UNABLE TO UPDATE WIN-OS/2 FILES ON A SEPARATE PARTITION WITH FIXPACKS 06/19/96 ====================================================================== Unable to Update WIN-OS/2 Files on a Separate Partition with FixPaks ====================================================================== Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION This problem occurs when the \WINOS2 directory is installed on a different partition than the base operating system. For example, when the base operating system is located on C: drive and \WINOS2 is on D: drive. RESOLUTION The FixPak program will update files only on a drive where the SYSLEVEL.OS2 file is present. The default location for this file is X:\OS2\INSTALL (where x is the base OS/2 drive). To update files on a different drive, an additional SYSLEVEL.OS2 must be copied to that partition. Copy the SYSLEVEL.OS2 file to the \OS2 directory of the drive where \WINOS2 resides. An \INSTALL directory can be created within the \OS2 directory, but is not mandatory. This second \OS2 directory is automatically created during installation when you choose to place WIN-OS/2 support in a separate partition. To create the \INSTALL directory within the \OS2 directory (this is optional), type the following and press Enter after each: X: (where X: is the drive where WIN-OS/2 is located) CD OS2 MD INSTALL Once this subdirectory is created, copy the SYSLEVEL.OS2 file to X:\OS2\INSTALL. When the FixPak installation is started, the service window will show two base operating systems entries (one for C: and one for D:), along with MMPM. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
