OSPR4029 - SETTING UP IBM LASERPRINTER 4029 FOR SERIAL PRINTING 02/07/96 ======================================================================= Setting Up IBM LaserPrinter 4029 for Serial Printing in OS/2 2.1 or OS/2 2.11 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION This document describes how to set up the IBM LaserPrinter 4029 for serial-interface communication. RESOLUTION For a serial-interface connection, use either: * IBM Serial Cable P/N 6486685 (6.1 m or 20 ft) * Non-IBM serial cable with the IBM Serial Interface Adapter Plug P/N 1319143 Serial-Interface Settings ------------------------- The following is a brief description of the serial-interface settings. Protocol -------- The printer supports three serial handshaking protocols: * XON/XOFF * DTR * DTR/DSR The default setting is DTR. Baud ---- Baud is the rate, in bits per second (bps), that data is being sent to or from the host computer through the serial interface. The printer can send or receive data at up to 38400 bps. The default setting is 9600. Data Bits --------- The number of data bits sent in each transmission frame using the serial interface. The default setting is 8. Parity ------ The parity setting for the serial interface. The factory default setting is None. Setting Up the Printer ---------------------- Before beginning the procedure, make sure the serial cable is connected to both the computer and printer. Also make sure the computer interface is compatible with the printer's serial communications settings. See the computer or operating-system documentation for details. 1. Press Main Menu until "Interface" is displayed. 2. Press List + until "=Serial" is displayed. 3. Press Alt+Save to save the choice as a user default setting. An asterisk (*) appears momentarily next to the setting, and then "Interface" appears again. 4. Follow the procedures below to change the settings. Changing the Protocol Setting ----------------------------- 1. Press Main Menu once. "Protocol" is displayed. 2. Press List + until the choice you want to use is displayed. 3. Press Alt+Save to save the choice as a user default setting. An asterisk (*) appears momentarily next to the setting, and then "Protocol" appears again. Changing the Baud Setting ------------------------- 1. Press Main Menu once. "Baud" is displayed. 2. Press List + until the choice you want to use is displayed. 3. Press Alt+Save to save the choice as a user default setting. An asterisk (*) appears momentarily next to the setting, and then "Baud" appears again. Changing the Data Bits Setting ------------------------------ 1. Press Main Menu once. "Data Bits" is displayed. 2. Press List + until the choice you want to use is displayed. 3. Press Alt+Save to save the choice as a user default setting. An asterisk (*) appears momentarily next to the setting, and then "Data Bits" appears again. Changing the Parity Setting --------------------------- 1. Press Main Menu once. "Parity" is displayed. 2. Press List + until the choice you want to use is displayed. 3. Press Alt+Save to save the choice as a user default setting. An asterisk (*) appears momentarily next to the setting, and then "Parity" appears again.
