OSVIAVAL - NOT GETTING THE VIDEO RESOLUTION THAT YOU EXPECTED? 11/12/96 ======================================================================= Not Getting the Video Resolution That You Expected? ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION After installing SVGA video drivers without error, the video resolutions that the adapter and monitor configuration should support are not listed. RESOLUTION The resolution choices available on the Screen tab of the System Properties notebook, are, for the most part, dependent on what Graphic Modes were generated into the \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file. For some chipsets, it is also important to select the correct monitor on page 2 of the Screen tab. The monitor choices available are listed in the \OS2\MONITOR.DIF file. If your monitor is not listed, view the MONITOR.DIF file with an editor; examine the monitor entries and compare to the documentation provided with your monitor to find a comparable match. This match should not include any resolutions where the refresh rate is higher than what your monitor can support. Warning: 1. Setting the refresh rate higher than what your monitor can support can cause damage to the monitor. 2. Do not attempt to manually modify the MONITOR.DIF and SVGADATA.PMI files. They can be pulled into an editor to VIEW them but do not save any changes if requested. If the Graphics Mode entry that you expect is listed in the SVGADATA.PMI file, check to make sure that the monitor that you have selected has that as a supported mode in the MONITOR.DIF file. If the Graphics Mode entry that you expect is not listed in the SVGADATA.PMI file, try reinstalling the SVGA driver, after renaming or deleting the existing \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file. This time, choose Specific monitor utility, instead of Install using Monitor defaults. When prompted for the utility disk, use the DOS-based video setup utility for the adapter. This can be obtained from the manufacturer of the video adapter, or if the adapter is generic, from the manufacturer of the chipset. Run this utility during the SVGA driver installation to assist in generating the correct SVGADATA.PMI file. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
