OSVICIR - CIRRUS LOGIC CHIP-SET WORK-AROUND FOR OS/2 2.1 AND OS/2 2.11 01/26/96 ======================================================================= Cirrus Logic Chip-Set Work-Around for OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 2.11 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION Selective Install or DSPINSTL for SVGA fails. OS/2 does not properly identify the chip set. RESOLUTION 1. Download the latest S3-16M.DSK file from the IBM PCC BBS (919-517-0001). It also is available from CompuServe and the Internet. 2. Follow the instructions in the README file and run S3INST. 3. Shut down and then restart the system. 4. Run DSPINSTL. Refer to the OS/2 documentation. OS/2 should identify the chip set as a Cirrus Logic 5428. Note: Do not change the chip-set selection to S3. You are not using the S3 drivers; only the patch provided by the package. THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO XR06200 CODE AND ABOVE. If you are downloading from the IBM BBS, get LDF.COM and do the following: 1. At an OS/2 command prompt, type LDF.COM S3-16M.DSK and press Enter. 2. Insert a formatted, high-density diskette in drive A; then type LOADDSKF S3-16M.DSK A: and press Enter. 3. Follow the instructions in the README file and run S3INSTL. 4. Shut down and then restart the system. 5. Run DSPINSTL. Refer to the OS/2 documentation. The Cirrus Logic chip should now be identified, not S3. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
