OSVIIN32 - INSTALLING ATI MACH32 IBM BBS DRIVERS UNDER OS/2 WARP CONNECT 08/16/96 ====================================================================== Installing ATI MACH32 IBM BBS drivers under OS/2 Warp Connect ====================================================================== Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION After installing ATI MACH32 drivers downloaded from the IBM BBS, the system locks up when using WIN-OS/2 seamless sessions. If you take these preliminary steps before installing or reinstalling the drivers, the problem will not occur. This procedure was tested on an IBM ValuePoint P60/D. RESOLUTION Before starting the instructions that come with the drivers, follow these preliminary steps: 1. Reset the system to VGA (640x480x16) with one of the following methods: a. Restart the system; when a small white box appears in the upper-left corner, press Alt-F1 to bring up the Recovery Choices Screen. Choose V to reset the system to VGA. b. Use Selective Install of VGA. (You will then need to restart the system for the changes to take effect.) 2. Insert the diskette containing the ATI MACH32 drivers obtained from the IBM BBS in drive A:. 3. Type E A:\ATIM32.DSP to edit the ATIM32.DSP file. Make the following changes: a. Near the top, in the :FILES :MODE=PRIMARY section, change the following line from: DSPRES.DL_ %BOOTDRIVE%: to: *DSPRES.DL_ %BOOTDRIVE%: This stops the second phase of installation from stalling on a date-related replacement. While this may be necessary for OS/2 2.11, it doesn't work correctly on OS/2 Warp Connect. b. In the :CONFIG :MODE=PRIMARY section, change the resolution to your desired final state; for example, SET ATI_RES=800x600x8bpp c. At the bottom of the file, in the :WININI :MODE=PRIMARY :MODE=WINDOWS group, add: Mach ACEPLANAR This is the key element that prevents lockups on the ValuePoint P60/D. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
