OSVIM32I - BLACK SCREEN BLINKING CURSOR ON STARTUP WITH ATI MACH32 OR MACH64 AND OS/2 WARP (ALL VERSIONS) 12/02/96 ======================================================================= Black Screen Blinking Cursor on Startup with ATI Mach32 or Mach64 and OS/2 Warp (All Versions) ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION When the system restarts after the first phase of installation on a system with an ATI Mach32 or Mach64 video adapter, the system stops at a black screen with a blinking cursor. The problem is that the VGA (640x480) driver is attempting to initialize at 60 Hz. If the adapter mode for 640x480 is set to a refresh rate other than 60 Hz, the video will not be able to startup, and the system will hang on startup with a black screen and a blinking cursor in the upper left-hand corner. RESOLUTION Use the video adapter DOS utilities that come with the adapter to set the 640x480 mode to a 60 Hz refresh rate. These utilities can also be obtained from ATI's World Wide Web site at http://www.atitech.ca or from their BBS at (905) 764-9404. For assistance on running the utilities, contact ATI Technical Support at (905) 882-2626. warp4 ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
