OSVIQVDS - SYS0008 STARTING DOS SESSION AFTER INSTALLING QVISION 2000 VIDEO DRIVER 12/06/96 ======================================================================= SYS0008 Starting DOS Session after Installing QVision 2000 Video Driver ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION Attempting to start a DOS session results in a SYS0008 error message and the session does not start. WIN-OS/2 sessions are also unable to start. This occurs after installing the QVision 2000 Video Drivers for a Compaq system. This problem does not occur on OS/2 Warp version 3. RESOLUTION There are two possible workarounds: 1. Open an OS/2 Window or Full Screen Session. Type E CONFIG.SYS, then press Enter. Change the DEVICE=...\OS2\MDOS\VSVGA.SYS statement to DEVICE=...\OS2\MDOS\VVGA.SYS. This allows DOS and WIN-OS/2 sessions to start in VGA mode. 2. Use the VSVGA.SYS from OS/2 Warp version 3. This allows DOS and WIN-OS/2 sessions to start. This file is not available publicly. It can be obtained from a system running OS/2 Warp Version 3, by contacting technical support, or by unpacking the bundle DOS from the OS/2 Warp Version 3 Diskette 3 into a temporary directory and then copying it over to the \OS2\MDOS directory. To unpack the bundle, type: UNPACK DOS X:\TEMP, then press Enter. (where X:\TEMP is the path to a temporary directory) The OS/2 Warp 4 level of VSVGA.SYS is not compatible with this chipset. warp4 ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
