OSVISMSS - SYSTEM LOCKS UP WHEN CLOSING WIN-OS/2 WINDOW SESSION IN OS/2 2.1 AND OS/2 2.11 01/16/96 ======================================================================= System Locks Up when Closing WIN-OS/2 Window Session in OS/2 2.1 and OS/2 2.11 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION A system locks up when trying to close a WIN-OS/2 Window session. The system has an ATI8514 or compatible board, and the CONFIG.SYS file has VSVGA instead of VVGA. RESOLUTION You need to make changes to the CONFIG.SYS file and to WIN-OS/2 options. Note: Make sure you have a backup of any file you intend to change. Edit the CONFIG.SYS File ------------------------ 1. Open an OS/2 Window session. 2. At the command prompt, type E CONFIG.SYS and press Enter. 3. Press Ctrl+S to display the Search window. 4. Type VSVGA in the Search window. 5. Type VVGA in the Replace window. 6. Select the Find push button. 7. Select the Change push button. 8. Press F4 to save and exit the file. Change WIN-OS/2 Options ----------------------- 1. Point to an empty space on the Desktop and press mouse button 2. The Desktop menu appears. 2. Select System Setup. The System Icon view appears. 3. Select WIN-OS/2 Setup. 4. Click on WIN-OS/2 Settings with mouse button 1. 5. Press the M key. 6. Type A000 - C7FF in the Value box. 7. Select the Option window and press Starting Seamless Application. 8. Highlight VIDEO_RETRACE. 9. Select ON; then select the Option window. 10. Click on VIDEO_ROM_EMULATION with mouse button 1. 11. Select ON; then select the Option window. 12. Click on VIDEO_SWITCH_NOTIFICATION with mouse button 1. 13. Select ON; then select the Option window. 14. Save and exit the window. 15. Close the WIN-OS/2 Settings window. 16.
