OSVIWDCS - WIN-OS/2 WINDOW SESSION IN SVGA LOCKS UP SYSTEM WITH WD90C33 VIDEO CHIP SET 05/09/96 ======================================================================= WIN-OS/2 Window Session in SVGA Locks Up System with WD90C33 Video Chip Set ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedure ------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION When a WIN-OS/2 Window session in SVGA is opened on a system that has the Western Digital 90C33 video chip set, the system locks up. The system cannot be restarted with Ctrl+Alt+Del; it must be turned off and then turned back on. In addition, a memory dump cannot be made. Note: The problem could not be re-created with any of the Western Digital 90C33 video adapters supported by OS/2 Warp, but was re-created with many OEM adapters that had the WD90C33 chip set. These adapters apparently cannot handle the accelerated drivers under OS/2 Warp. The problem also was seen in Gateway 2000 systems that have the WD90C33 Rocket video adapter. RESOLUTION 1. Using Selective Install, reset video to VGA. Note: You also can press Alt+F1 and then V. 2. In Selective Install, click on Primary Display; then select Western Digital 90C11, C30, C31 (C30 mode only). 3. Select OK and then OK again. 4. Select Default when prompted to choose Monitor Utility or Default. 5. When prompted to select a resolution, select one with 1 MB of video memory. 6. Complete the installation; then shut down and restart the system. The WIN-OS/2 sessions now will work. Note: The use of these drivers might result in a slower video repaint. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
