OSWAWI95 - WINDOWS APPLICATIONS FAILING WITH WINDOWS 95--ALL OS/2 RELEASES 04/18/96 ======================================================================= Windows Applications Failing with Windows 95--All OS/2 Releases ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION On OS/2 systems that have Windows 95 installed, some Windows applications fail under WIN-OS/2, with the following error: This application requires a newer version of WIN-OS/2. RESOLUTION In some cases, Windows 95 dynamic link library (DLL) files get copied into the \OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM directory. Most of these DLL files have names that are different from their WIN-OS/2 counterparts; however, the following have the same name in both versions, and are the cause of the error message: OLE2.DLL OLE2CONV.DLL OLE2DISP.DLL OLE2NLS.DLL OLE2PROX.DLL OLECLI.DLL OLESVR.DLL COMPOBJ.DLL STORAGE.DLL TYPELIB.DLL These DLLs need to be replaced by versions later than 7-11-95 (all Win95 DLLs are dated 7-11-95). This can be done by copying them from the \OS2\MDOS\WINOS2\SYSTEM directory of another working system. If another system with these files is not available, reinstall the failing application under WIN-OS/2. But first, remove all the above listed DLLs, because the application might not copy its OLE2 DLLs over the newer ones. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
