RESOLUTION 1. If you already have an OS/2 Warp Connect Install/Remove folder in the OS/2 System folder on your Desktop, follow steps 1a through 1c. If you do not have an OS/2 Warp Connect Install/Remove folder in the OS/2 System folder on your Desktop go to step 2. a. Place the OS/2 Warp Connect CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. b. Double-click on the OS/2 Warp Connect Install/Remove folder in the OS/2 System folder. c. Double-click the OS/2 Warp Connect Remote Install icon in the OS/2 Warp Connect Install/Remove folder. Then continue with step 4. 2. If you do not already have an OS/2 Warp Connect Install/Remove folder on your CD-ROM-attached workstation, follow steps 2a through 2d. a. Place the OS/2 Warp Connect CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive. b. At an OS/2 command prompt, type the following and press Enter: X:\INSTALL where X is the CD-ROM drive letter. c. In the Installation Drive window, select the drive on which to place the installation directory. Then select OK. Installation files are copied to the hard disk. d. In the OS/2 Warp Connect Install - Copying files window, select OK. 3. When the Local versus Remote window is displayed, select On another workstation; then select OK. Note: If the Prerequisite software required window is displayed, select OK. After the prerequisite software installation is finished, shut down and restart the workstation; then begin this procedure again with step 1. 4. If the Remote Installation Diskettes window is displayed, do one of the following: a. If you need to create new Remote Installation Diskettes, which are necessary to start the other workstation, select Yes. Then select OK and continue with step 5. The Remote Installation Diskettes are different from the OS/2 Warp Connect Installation diskettes that came with OS/2 Warp Connect. The OS/2 Warp Connect Installation diskettes cannot be used to install across the LAN. b. If you already have suitable remote installation diskettes, select NO; then select OK and go to step 6. Remote installation diskettes created earlier are probably suitable if you are installing from the same CD-ROM-attached workstation, and if the workstation on which you are installing has the same adapter type as the previously installed workstation. 5. Follow these steps: a. If the Diskette Creation window is displayed, select OK. b. In the Select Network Adapter window, verify that the highlighted LAN adapter type is the same as the network adapter installed on the other workstation. If not, select the correct adapter. If the adapter type is PCMCIA, select PCMCIA; then select the adapter's PCMCIA type. Select OK to continue. Note: If you cannot find your adapter type in the displayed list, you need to obtain OS/2-compatible drivers for your adapter. The drivers might be on a diskette that came with your workstation. Refer to the adapter documentation or ask the manufacturer for help locating OS/2-compatible drivers. To install an adapter driver type that is not in the list, insert the diskette that contains the correct drivers; then select the Other adapter button. In the window that is displayed, type the drive letter and directory; then select OK. If more than one driver is on the diskette, select the correct type to install from the displayed list and select OK. If you have changed hardware settings on your adapter, select Settings and configure the corresponding software settings to match the adapter settings. c. When the Create Installation Diskettes window is displayed with a message asking you to do so, insert a blank 1.44MB 3.5-inch diskette into a drive. Then select the diskette drive that you are using and select OK. d. When prompted, remove the diskette and label it Remote Installation Diskette. Then select OK. e. When the Create Installation Diskettes window is displayed again, insert another blank 1.44MB 3.5-inch diskette into the selected drive and select OK. f. When prompted, remove the diskette and label it Remote Installation OS/2 Diskette 1. Then select OK. 6. When the Remote Workstation Installation Steps window is displayed, select OK. Then take the Remote Installation Diskettes to the other workstation. Note: Do not close the Remote Installation Status window until you have finished installation on the other workstation. It must remain running to install products on the other workstation. 7. At the remote workstation, use the Remote Installation Diskettes to perform an installation as if the OS/2 Warp Connect CD-ROM were in an attached CD-ROM drive. The necessary files are actually loaded across the network. You can use either the Easy installation path, or the Advanced path. 8. When the installation is complete, return to the CD-ROM-attached workstation where you started this remote installation procedure. 9. In the OS/2 Warp Connect Remote Installation Service window, check the Status indicator to make sure the installation is complete. Then select Close. 10. Select End connection to confirm that you have completed the remote installation. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
