OSWPBLBL - BLANK BLUE DESKTOP ON STARTUP 11/14/96 ======================================================================= Blank Blue Desktop on Startup ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedures -------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION Upon startup, a blue background (like that of the Desktop) appears, with no icons. The system locks up; the mouse pointer is either a clock or pointer. Ctrl-Esc brings up a Window List, but it is empty. In some cases, a SYS0039 error occurs during startup, stating that the x: device is not ready, where x: is the CD-ROM drive. This might occur either immediately after installation, or on a working system which has been restarted normally in the past. The type of installation (upgrade or pristine) does not appear to matter. RESOLUTION The following workaround alleviates this problem: remove the WARPCENTER parameter from the SET AUTOSTART line in the CONFIG.SYS. 1. Start the system. 2. Press Alt-F1 when the OS/2 and white rectangle appear in the top left corner of the screen. 3. When the blue Welcome screen appears, press F2 to escape to a command prompt. 4. From the command prompt, type TEDIT \CONFIG.SYS, then press Enter. 5. Press Esc, then scroll through the CONFIG.SYS to find the SET AUTOSTART= line. 6. Remove the word WARPCENTER from this line. 7. Press F4 to save and exit the file. 8. Restart the system. The machine should now start properly. After removing the WARPCENTER parameter from the SET AUTOSTART line in CONFIG.SYS, the WarpCenter is not automatically launched during startup. To launch it, open the OS/2 System folder, and double click on the WarpCenter icon. If you wish to have the WarpCenter start automatically, drag a shadow of the icon to the Startup folder. To do this: 1. Position the mouse over the WarpCenter icon (located in the OS/2 System folder). 2. Press and hold the right mouse button while holding down the Shift key. 3. Drag the mouse over the Startup folder (also located in the OS/2 System folder). 4. Release the mouse button then release the Shift key. The next time the system is started, the WarpCenter starts automatically. warp4 ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
