OSWPWSER - "RUN WORKPLACE ERROR" MESSAGE IN OS/2 WARP VERSION 3.0 05/17/96 ======================================================================= "Run Workplace Error" Message in OS/2 Warp Version 3.0 ======================================================================= Please Read Entire Document for Full Explanation of Procedure ------------------------------------------------------------- DESCRIPTION After your system has been up and running, you receive the following message: "Run Workplace Error" and the system locks up. RESOLUTION If you are experiencing this problem, it is likely that a recent change has been made to your system. If this is the case, ask yourself the following questions: * Are you on a network? * Have you added a new network, video, or CD-ROM adapter to the system? * Has any new OS/2 software been added for any of these adapters? If you answered "Yes" to any of these questions, it is possible that a conflict now exists between your Desktop and the changes made to the operating environment. The error is likely due to a timing problem associated with the start of PMSHELL.EXE, as specific resources needed by the program have not been made available at start up time. Note: The following will work only if the error condition started after a change was made to the OS/2 system. Important: Performing a destructive MAKEINI will cause you to lose all customization. 1. Rename the CONFIG.SYS and STARTUP.CMD files (for example, CONFIG.OLD and STARTUP.OLD). 2. Copy the original CONFIG.SYS from the \OS2\INSTALL directory. 3. Perform a destructive MAKEINI. a. Turn on the computer, or press Ctrl+Alt+Del if it is already on. b. When the small white box appears in the upper-left corner, press Alt+F1 to display the Recovery Choices screen. c. At the Recovery Choices screen, press C. d. Change to the OS/2 directory; then type the following commands, pressing Enter after each: CD\OS2 ERASE OS2.INI INI.RC MAKEINI OS2.INI INI.RC ERASE OS2SYS.INI INISYS.RC MAKEINI OS2SYS.INI INISYS.RC e. Type the following and press Enter after each to delete the hidden file, WP?ROOT.?SF: ATTRIB -h -s -r \WP?ROOT.?SF DEL \WP?ROOT.?SF f. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the system. 4. Shut down and then restart the system. If you are still having problems when the system restarts: * Check the latest configurations for conflicts. * Review your new configurations and check your CONFIG.SYS file. * Use RMVIEW or another utility to look at your system's addresses that are in use and those that are available for resources to be configured. * Contact you vendor. ______________________________________________________________________ IBM disclaims all warranties, whether express or implied, including without limitation, warranties of fitness and merchantability with respect to the information in this document.
