Users can use the same set of UniMaint EXE, DLL, HLP and documentation
files for as many copies of OS/2 as they might have. The files simply need to
be placed in a directory that can be seen by all of the copies. All of these
files are read only files so there is no reason to have more than one copy. 

However, the files that are unique to each copy of OS/2 should be in a
separate directory for each copy. This includes the file that keeps the
UniMaint control information. To give you an example :

Lets say that a user has three copies of OS/2 on their Desktop OS/2 2.1, Warp
3 and Warp 4. We will further assume that the user wants to install UniMaint
on Drive E: in directory UniMaint. Here is what I would suggest: 

1. Before doing the installation, the user should create the E:\UNIMAINT
directory and then create three subdirectories OS221, WARP3 and WARP4 as
subdirectories of the UNIMAINT directory. 

2. Go to the CONFIG.SYS file for each of the copies an place an entry in the
file, SET UNIMAINT=E:\UNIMAINT\WARP3\UNIMAINT.INI would be the one for Warp 3,
telling UniMaint where the INI file for that copy of OS/2 should be located.
The  WARP3 part would get changed to OS221 and WARP4 for the appropriate
CONFIG.SYS. 

3. The user should reboot before doing the Install so that the CONFIG.SYS
entries will take effect. 

4. Do the installation of UniMaint from any one of the three copies of OS/2.
This will copy all of the files to the E:\UNIMAINT directory and create the
Tools Folder on the Warp 3 Desktop. 

5. The next time the user boots to the other partitions, they should use the
Install program to create a UniMaint folder for that copy of OS/2. 

6. The first time that UniMaint is run in each of the partitions the user
should go through all of the Wizards and make sure that the location for
things like the Desktop Backup and Restore Files, the Portable Backup and
Restore Files, the Cross Reference Files etc. are all pointed to the directory
for that copy of OS/2. For the Warp 3 Desktop all of these files would be
placed in E:\UNIMAINT\WARP3. 

The user should now be able to use the single copy of the UniMaint files on
all three copies of OS/2 without causing a conflict because the control
information will be kept in UNIMAINT.INI that will be in the subdirectory for
that copy of OS/2 and all of the files that are unique to that Desktop will
also be in the same subdirectory. 

Obviously, the user does not need to use a subdirectory of the UNIMAINT
directory, the file can be kept anywhere. It is also not necessary to keep all
of the types of UniMaint files in the same directory. The Desktop Backup,
Portable Backup and other files could be in different directories, the user
simply needs to insure that the various Defaults are set correctly and using
the Wizards is the easiest way to do this.
