APTIE4US.EXE ============================================== These files update certain applications on your Aptiva to resolve various compatibility issues after the installation of Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0. The specific updates applied by these files are as follows: 1. Aptiva Desktop Customization Update for IE 4.0 2. Aptiva Demo Update 3. Kidsroom Installation after IE 4.0 4. DVD Mpeg Sound Problems 5. Missing Sage.Vxd file after Uninstall of IE 4.0 6. Aptiva Update Connector Screens -------------------------------------------------- 1. APTIVA DESKTOP CUSTOMIZATION UPDATES: (For Aptiva Models: 2137, 2140 and 2142 ONLY) Because Animated Icons are not visible when IE 4.0's Active Desktop is running, IE 4.0 has "turned off" automatic loading of Aptiva Desktop Customization. This update will install the correct files so that this feature can be re-enabled and the icons will be visible. After installation of this update, you can re-enable the animation by running the "USERCUST.EXE" program in the "C:\PROGRAM FILES\IBM\APTDESK", place a check in the box for "Icon Animation", then click "OK". 2. APTIVA DEMO UPDATE: (For Aptiva Models: 2137, 2140 and 2142 ONLY) The Aptiva Demo currently on your system will only run at half size, and not in full screen mode. This update will restore the ability to show the Demo full screen normally. 3. KIDSROOM INSTALLATION AFTER IE 4.0 INSTALLATION: (For Aptiva Models: 2159, 2140, 2142, 2161, and 2162) Because of conflicting file needs; KIDSROOM CANNOT BE INSTALLED AFTER THE INSTALLATION OF IE 4.O. Therefore, this update will remove Kidsroom from the install path of the Aptiva Adventure, so that the rest of Aptiva Adventure can install correctly. If you have already installed KidsRoom, it will function normally. 4. DVD MPEG Blue Screen: (For Aptiva Models: 2140 or 2142 with a DVD-Rom drive) This change applies to computers that have a DVD drive but no hardware Mpeg card. It will place the correct DirectX 5 filters in place for playback. 5. MISSING SAGE.VXD AFTER UNINSTALL OF IE 4.0: (For Aptiva Models: 2137, 2140, 2142, 2159, 2161 and 2162) When uninstalling, IE 4.0 inadvertantly removes a file called c:\windows\system\sage.vxd. This file is needed by Microsoft Plus, and on boot up a file missing error will occur. This update will place a second copy of the file in c:\windows\system called sage.vxd2. If you uninstall IE4.0, go to C:\windows\system and locate this file. Rename it to SAGE.VXD, and the file missing error will no longer occur. 6. APTIVA UPDATE CONNECTOR SCREEN PROBLEM: (For Aptiva Models: 2140 or 2142) This update will replace the files needed by Aptiva Update Connector so that the screens redraw properly. Before Installing this Update: ============================== Please verify that you have done the following prior to installing this update: 1. Close Aptiva Desktop Customization 2. Exit the Aptiva Demo (if running) 3. Close any MPEG applications 4. If you wish to use the Kidsroom application, make certain that it is installed BEFORE installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0. 5. Install IE4.0 6. Reboot the computer. 7.
