Firmware updates for the Lite-On 40x CD-ROM, the Lite-On 40x 
CD-ROM Lite, and the Lite-On 48x CD-ROM.  

This package installs an update to the Lite-On(R) 40x CD-ROM, 
the Lite-On 40x CD-ROM Lite, and the Lite-On 48x CD-ROM 
that comes preinstalled in your IBM(R) Aptiva(R) or IBM 
NetVista(R).  This update requires one 1.44MB floppy diskette.

This update package is intended for IBM Aptiva machine types
2178-xxx, 2198-xxx, 2193-xxx, 2194-xxx (except 2194-23B and 441), 
2196-xxx, 2197-xxx, 2274-xxx and the IBM NetVista 2194-xxx, 
2196-xx, 2197-xxx, 6837-xxx, 6568-xxx, 6569-xxx, 6578-xxx, 6579-xxx, 
6648-xxx, 6649-xxx 2251-xxx 2271-xxx, 6830-xxx, 6831-xxx, 6840-xxx, 
6841-xxx, 6847-xxx that come with a preinstalled . 

How to determine whether this update applies to your machine
------------------------------------------------------------
All firmware levels below the following should be updated:
Lite-ON 40X CD-ROM	DU30
Lite-On 40x CD-ROM lite	QUO8
Lite-On 48X CD-ROM	Ju08

To determine the firmware level of your CDROM  using Windows 98 or Windows ME,

1. Click Start
2. Click Settings
3. Click Control Panel
4. Click System
5. Click Device Manager
6. Expand the CD-ROM
7. Click on the Lite-On CD-ROM
8. Click Properties
9. Click Settings

To determine the firmware level of your CDROM using NT4.0

1. Click Start
2. Click Settings
3. Click Control Panel
4. Click SCSI Adapters
5. Expand all options until you see the CD-ROM.  Click on the CD-ROM
6. Click Properties
7. Click Settings

Under Windows 2000

1. Remove the cover screws
2. Remove the cover
3. Remove the CD-ROM
4. Look at the label on the CD-ROM drive.


Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation.

Downloading the update
----------------------
1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page.
2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save
   the downloaded file.

Extracting the update
---------------------

Installing this update involves creating a firmware update flash 
diskette and running the flash program from the diskette. Before you 
begin, have a blank 1.44 MB diskette ready.

1. Click Start.
2. Click Find.
3. Click Files or folders.
4. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive. 
5. Type d01t00a.exe in the search box, click Find Now. This will locate 
   the d01t00a.exe file you just downloaded. 
6. Double-click the icon for d01t00a.exe. 
7. Follow the onscreen prompts. The necessary files will be extracted 
   to the diskette. 

Installing the update
---------------------
1. Close all open applications. 
2. Leave the diskette in the A: drive, and shut down and restart the 
   computer to start the firmware flash program. 
   There are no prompts; the process is fully automatic. In automatic 
   mode a "xx% Complete" counter as the firmware is downloaded.  When 
   it reaches 100%, there is a message that the download is complete, 
   which is quickly cleared.  
3. When the update is complete, the screen will return to the A> prompt.
4. Remove the diskette and restart the system.
