---------------------------------------------------------------------- S3 Video Device Driver for Windows 95 README File ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Products Supported: IBM Personal Computers and Servers with S3 Trio3D on-board graphics accelerators This README file contains procedures for installing from diskette the S3 Trio3D video device driver for Windows 95; it also contains other video-related procedures. The following topics are included in the file: 1.0 Installing the S3 Video Device Driver for Windows 95 2.0 Changing the Video Settings 3.0 Changing the Monitor Refresh Rate 4.0 Trademarks IMPORTANT NOTE: Because the Trio3D is an AGP device, OEM Service Release 2.1 or later for Windows 95 must be installed on your system for the device drivers to work properly. 1.0 Installing the S3 Video Device Driver for Windows 95 _________________________________________________________ Note: At present, Windows 95 does not include the correct display device driver for the S3 Trio3D chip set. For best results, install the device driver supplied with this README file. To install the S3 video device driver: 1. Start Windows 95 in VGA mode. If you need to switch to VGA mode, use the following instructions; otherwise, continue with step 2. +--- To switch to VGA mode -------------------------------------+ a. Click the right mouse button when the pointer is on any blank area of the Desktop. b. Select PROPERTIES from the pop-up menu. c. Click on the SETTINGS tab. d. Click on the CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE button. e. Under Adapter Type, click on the CHANGE button. f. Click on the SHOW ALL DEVICES button. g. On the Manufacturers list, select STANDARD DISPLAY TYPES. h. On the Models list, select STANDARD DISPLAY ADAPTER (VGA). i. Click on the OK button; then click on the following buttons as windows reappear: CLOSE, APPLY, and then YES to restart the computer. +---------------------------------------------------------------+ 2. Click on the START button, select SETTINGS, and then click on CONTROL PANEL. 3. Double-click on the DISPLAY icon. The Display Properties window appears. Note: You can also display the Display Properties window by clicking the right mouse button anywhere on the Desktop and then selecting the PROPERTIES option from the pop-up menu. 4. Click on the SETTINGS tab. 5. Click on the ADVANCED PROPERITIES or CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE button depending on your version of Windows 95. 6. Under Adapter Type, click on the CHANGE button. 7. In the Select Device window, click on the HAVE DISK button. 8. If installing from diskette insert the S3 Trio video device driver for Windows 95 into drive A. 9. Change the path statement to point to the driver files, then click on the OK button. 10. Select S3 Trio3D driver from the list, and click on OK. If a message appears stating that one or more driver files are older than the files on the system, click on NO. 11. Click on the CLOSE button. 12. Select the appropriate resolution using the Desktop Area and Color Palette options. 13. Click on the APPLY button. A System Settings Change box appears. 14. Remove any diskettes from the drive. 15. Click on YES to restart your PC. The new Windows 95 video device driver installation is now complete. 2.0 Changing the Video Settings ________________________________ To change the video settings: 1. Start Windows 95. 2. Click on the START button, select SETTINGS, and then click on CONTROL PANEL. 3. Double-click on the DISPLAY icon. The Display Properties window appears. 4. Click on the SETTINGS tab. 5. Change the resolution, color palette, or font size. 6. Click on the APPLY button. The Systems Settings Change box appears. 7. As prompted, restart Windows 95 or press OK and then Yes to resize the display dynamically. 3.0 Changing the Monitor Refresh Rate ______________________________________ To change the monitor refresh rate: 1. Start Windows 95. 2. Click the right mouse button on the Desktop; then select PROPERTIES from the pop-up menu. 3. In the Display Properties window, click on the S3 REFRESH tab. 4. Click on CHANGE CONFIGURATION. 5. Select the desired refresh rates from the pull-down menus. Note: For DDC monitor detection, select OPTIMAL as the refresh rate for the supported resolution. 6.
