README.1ST SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION EtherDisk (R) Diskette for the 3C90X Fast EtherLink XL/EtherLink XL Bus Master NIC Family DIAGNOSTICS -- DOS ------------------ If you received your software on CDROM, you will need to copy the DOS diagnostics to floppy diskette before executing. Execute the DOS diagnostic program from a clean DOS boot of the PC without any device driver loaded. Preparing the floppy diskette may be done using one of two methods. 1 - copy the entire diskette image of Disk 1 to floppy diskette. Insert the floppy disk into the floppy drive of the target device. Execute 3C90XCFG.EXE. 2 - copy the following programs from Disk 1 to floppy diskette: 3C90XCFG.EXE 3C90XCFG.PIF 3C90XENG.HLP Insert the floppy diskette into the floppy drive of the target device and execute 3C90XCFG.EXE. INSTALLATION - WINDOWS 98 ------------------------- To install the network driver in a PC running Microsoft Windows 98, insert EtherDisk diskette 2 when the Update Device Driver wizard starts and prompts you for a diskette or CD. Do not insert EtherDisk diskette 1, because the installation will be unsuccessful. Continue with the installation by following the prompts on the screen. For instructions, follow the Windows 95 installation steps in the user guide included in your package. Confirming Installation To verify that the network driver was successfully installed in a PC running Windows 98: 1 Open the Windows Start menu, select Settings, and then select Control Panel. 2 Double-click the System icon, and then select the Device Manager tab. 3 Double-click Network adapters and make sure that the name of the EtherLink or Fast EtherLink XL NIC appears. If a red X appears next to the name of the NIC, the installation was not successful. If this occurs, verify that the NIC is not disabled by following these steps: a Double-click the name of the NIC. b Select the General tab. c Make sure that Disable in this hardware profile is not selected. If the NIC is not disabled and a red X still appears next to the name of the NIC, update the driver by following these steps: a Double-click the name of the NIC. b Select the Driver tab, and then click the Update Driver button. c Insert EtherDisk diskette 2 when prompted for a disk. Continue with the installation by following the prompts on the screen. If a yellow exclamation (!) point appears next to the name of the NIC, the installation is not complete. See the user guide that came with your NIC for troubleshooting help.
