When you speak with a customer support representative, inform them to route your call to the 36WSEM--Location 153 area of the IBM RETAIN Customer Support System. ---------- *Express Adapter Support Diskettes Replacements/Updates Any replacement or updates (when available) for the IBM 5250 Express Adapter Support Diskettes will be made available through the IBM 5250 Emulation Family Home Page on the Internet at URL: http://www.networking.ibm.com/5250 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2 - ATTENTION WINDOWS 95 USERS - PLEASE READ! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ After you have installed an Express adapter in your system and you power on the system, Windows 95 will detect the new adapter and will prompt you through either the Add New Hardware Wizard or Update Device Driver Wizard. If during this process you receive a message to insert the Windows 95 disk or CD-ROM, ignore this message by selecting "OK". You should then see the "Copying files" window. Enter "a:\" in the input area and select "OK". The Express ISA Adapter will be configured in PnP mode unless the following occurs: 1. You do not have a system with a BIOS that supports PnP or you are not using a PnP operating system (e.g. Windows 95 is a PnP operating system). 2. You have disabled the Express ISA Adapter. If you need to disable the PnP mode of the Express ISA Adapter, follow the steps below. ---------- *Disabling Plug and Play Mode of a 5250 Express ISA Adapter* If you need to disable the Plug and Play mode of the Express ISA Adapter, follow these steps: 1) Reboot your system with the IBM 5250 Express Adapter Support Diskette, Disk 2, in the diskette drive. 2) On the 5250 Emulation Adapter Tests screen, press Enter. 3) Select Configure Adapter. 4) Select IBM 5250 Express ISA (Plug-n-Play) Adapter from the Select Adapter Type screen (you may need to choose Select Adapter Type first). 5) Follow the instructions until the 5250 Adapter Configuration Menu is displayed. Select Change Adapter Configuration. 6) Select Disable Plug-n-Play from the Change Adapter Configuration screen. 7) Select Exit from the 5250 Adapter Configuration Menu. 8) Power off the PC. The next time that you power on the PC, the adapter will be in non-PnP mode. 9) Run the Hardware Configuration program (hwconfig.exe). Select Change Adapter Configuration. Select Automatic Configuration. ---------- *Changing I/O ports under Windows 95 (PnP disabled)* When the 5250 ISA Express adapter Plug-n-Play option is disabled (non Plug-n-Play mode), the adapter's I/O port is configured using HWCONFIG.EXE. Even though the I/O port is shown within the device manager of Windows 95, you can only change the adapter's I/O port using the HWCONFIG program. ---------- *Hardware Manufacturer Diskette for Plug and Play Devices* If you are installing an IBM Express plug and play adapter, Windows 95 will display the "New Hardware Found" window the first time you power-on your system. When this occurs insert either of the IBM 5250 Express Adapter Support diskettes and select the option "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer". Press the OK button and the "Install From Disk" window will be appear. Press the OK button and the necessary files will be copied to your system disk. To complete the installation, remember to run the Install program on these diskettes after the Windows 95 desktop appears. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5 - SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS/SUPPORTED ENVIRONMENTS ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The IBM 5250 Express adapters require a compatible 5250 terminal emulation program, supplied by the customer, to provide the intended function. The 5250 Express adapters are compatible with the same 5250 terminal emulation programs and support the same functions as the 5250 adapters they replace. It is also supported by AS/400's running OS/400 V4R1 with a workstation controller with feature code 6180, 2720, 2722, or 9280. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6 - IBM 5250 EXPRESS ADAPTER SUPPORT DISKETTES ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Adapter Support Diskettes* Included with your IBM 5250 Express Adapter are two 5250 Express Adapter Support Diskettes. The 5250 Express Installation Program must be started from Disk 1. The 5250 Express Installation Program is used to install support that may be necessary for your software and/or hardware Twinax emulation configuration. You must run this installation after you install one of the IBM 5250 Express adapters. Make sure any emulation application you intend to use is installed BEFORE running this installation program. See the 5250 Express manual for instructions on starting the installation program. Please read the text on the screens carefully while running the 5250 Express Installation Program as they contain important information to guide you through the install. Disk 2 also contains part of the 5250 Express Installation Program which you will be prompted to insert when needed. Disk 2 is also a bootable diskette to allow you to run the 5250 Adapter Test Program (diagnostics) and the Hardware Configuration Program for IBM 5250 Adapters. Disk 2 is shipped write-enabled. This diskette must remain write-enabled because both the diagnostics and configuration programs save information to this diskette. Please note that whenever the Express Adapter Support Diskette, Disk 2, is in the floppy drive and you reboot your system, the diskette will boot and start the Hardware Configuration Program. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7 - IBM 5250 EXPRESS INSTALLATION PROGRAM ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Selecting Your Adapter Type* While running the IBM 5250 Express Installation Program you will be asked to select which 5250 Express Adapter you have installed. If you have the IBM 5250 ISA Express Adapter and the adapter is in Plug and Play mode (as shipped), select: "IBM 5250 Express ISA Adapter" If Plug and Play mode has been disabled, select: "IBM 5250 Express ISA Adapter (Non Plug-n-Play mode)". ---------- *Changing Between ISA Plug-n-Play Mode and Non Plug-n-Play Mode* If you change the PnP mode of the Express ISA adapter from PnP enabled to Non PnP mode or vice versa, you need to run the Express installation program again and select your current ISA adapter. ---------- *Selecting an Install Option* While running the IBM 5250 Express Installation Program you will be asked to select which option you would like to install from a list similar to the following: - Support for IBM Client Access - Support for IBM Personal Communications AS/400 - Updates for the IBM Enhanced Link Version 3.0 - IBM 5250 Express Adapter Support Only You MUST run this installation program from the operating system you intend to use. Not all of the options are available under every operating system. Only the applicable options for your Express adapter and operating system configuration will be displayed for you to choose from. If your emulation application is not listed, select the "IBM 5250 Express Adapter Support Only" option. Refer to the specific sections in this Readme.txt for each support option for additional information. ---------- *PC Card Users* If you receive a message during the installation that Hardware Configuration will be run and the options you must choose are listed, here also is a list of those options: 1. From Select Adapter Type menu, choose IBM 5250 Express PC Card 2. When prompted to add a command to CONFIG.SYS, choose Yes 3. Follow the rest of the instructions and then select Exit from the "5250 Adapter Configuration Menu" ---------- *DOS and OS/2 Users* You should ignore the "This Disk" and "Entire Installation/Entire Project" percentage indicator boxes at the bottom of the screen while running the IBM 5250 Express Installation Program. While running under DOS, the selected option in a box of options will be the one that is flashing. While running under OS/2, the selected option in a box of options will be the one that is NOT in reverse video. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8 - IBM CLIENT ACCESS NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Internet Address* If you would like to visit the IBM Client Access internet site, the address is: http://www.as400.ibm.com/clientaccess ---------- *Important Information Regarding AS/400 Updates* If you apply AS/400 updates to your Client Access application anytime after you run the 5250 Express Installation program, you need to run the Express Installation program again selecting the same support. The AS/400 update function may replace some of the files that the Express Installation program copied to your hard disk. Running the Express Installation program again will place the correct files back on your hard disk. ---------- *Windows 3.1x PC Card Users* When using the 5250 Express PC Card under Windows 3.1x with Client Access, the adapter must be inserted before starting Windows. The adapter must not be removed until Client Access is removed from memory. In this environment the PC Card is not hot pluggable. ---------- *DOS PC Card Users* When using the 5250 Express PC Card under DOS with Client Access, the adapter must be inserted before running STARTPCS.BAT. The adapter must not be removed until Client Access is removed from memory. In this environment the PC Card is not hot pluggable. ---------- *DOS PC Card or PCI Card Users* If you apply AS/400 updates to your DOS Client Access application anytime after you run the 5250 Express Installation program and select this support and then you cannot make a connection to the host or the card is not found, you need to run the Express Installation program again selecting the same support. The AS/400 update function may replace some of the files that the Express Installation program copied to your hard disk. Running the Express Installation program again will place the correct files back on your hard disk. ---------- *DOS PC Card Users* While running the 5250 Express Installation Program from DOS, if you select Express PC Card for the adapter and Support for IBM Client Access, the install will make modifications to the STARTPCS.BAT file and copy needed files to your current Client Access directory to enable the Express PC Card for this configuration. It will also copy files to the default directory c:\enb5250 and make modifications to your AUTOEXEC.BAT. The STARTPCS.BAT file will be modified such that all lines which execute E5250AH or WSEAH will be remarked out and the following line will be added: CALL LDMCAAHS E [drive:][path]AH.MR0 The AUTOEXEC.BAT file will be modified such that all lines which contain "ENB5250" or "STARTPCS.BAT" will be remarked out and the following lines will be added to the bottom: SET ENB5250=C:\ENB5250 (default path) x: (where x is drive letter of startpcs.bat path) cd\[path of startpcs.bat] x:[path of startpcs.bat]\startpcs.bat If you receive a screen with the message "You selected support to install IBM Client Access Support but install could not verify a currently installed version meets the update requirements", review the following list of prerequisites: 1. A STARTPCS.BAT file must exist on one of your local hard disks. 2. Only one or neither of the files, LDMCAAHS.BAT or SFDENAB.EXE, can exist in the STARTPCS.BAT directory. 3. The file QPTFIDX must be in the same directory as the STARTPCS.BAT file. 4. The QPTFIDX file must contain both "V3R1M1" (version indicator) and "5763XB1" (DOS Extended indicator). 5. The file AH.MR0 must exist on one of your local hard disks. 6. There must be at least one occurrence of E5250AH.COM or WSEAH.COM that is not remarked out in STARTPCS.BAT. If this support is installed successfully and the hardware still does not work in the DOS environment, try removing the interrupt sharing capability of the card adapter handler by editing the STARTPCS.BAT file and changing: CALL LDMCAAHS E [drive:][path]AH.MR0 to: CALL LDMCAAHS N [drive:][path]AH.MR0 ---------- *Windows 95 and Windows NT Tips* 1. Restart Your System After Install After running the Express installation program, the computer must be restarted before attempting to make a connection using Client Access for Windows 95/NT. 2. Tips for Add New Hardware Selections (Windows 95) While running the Express installation under this configuration, a check will be made to determine if your 5250 Express adapter has been installed and configured correctly. If any problems are found in the configuration, the Windows 95 Add New Hardware function may be invoked. This section contains important information concerning the questions you will be asked during this process. a) The first window displayed by the Add New Hardware Wizard will ask you to select Next or Cancel. Click the "Next" button to begin the installation. b) The next window asks if you would like Windows to search for your new hardware. Click "No" and "Next". c) Scroll down the list of Hardware types displayed. Click the hardware type "Others" or "Other devices". Click "Next". d) Disregard any Models that may be listed and click "Have Disk". This will ensure that the Models list is updated with the information associated with this Twinax software update. e) Click "OK" and the list of Models will be updated. f) From the list of Models, click on the type of adapter installed in your computer. The list should include the following Models: - IBM 5250 Express ISA Adapter - IBM 5250 Express ISA Adapter - Non Plug & Play - IBM 5250 Express PC Card - IBM 5250 Express PCI Adapter Click "Next". g) The remaining messages will vary based on which Adapter type you are installing. You should see messages that indicate that your hardware has been installed correctly and in some cases, the resource settings for your adapter will be displayed. The section entitled "Changing Resource Settings" has information that can help you change the settings later. Do not make changes during this step of the installation. h) If there are no resource conflicts, a window will appear indicating that the software has finished installing. If there are resource conflicts, refer to the section entitled "Changing Resource Settings" for information that can help you resolve the conflicts. Do not make changes during this step of the installation. i) A window may be displayed stating that to complete the installation, the computer must be shut down and restarted. You should not shut down and restart at this time. Click "No". j) If resource conflicts occurred, or if you wish to change the resource settings please make the necessary changes. Refer to the section entitled "Changing Resource Settings" for additional information. k) The computer should now be restarted. 3. Tips for Installing the IBM 5250 Express ISA Adapter If you encounter problems making an AS/400 connection after installing the "IBM 5250 Express ISA Adapter" you may have a resource conflict with IRQ 9. Using the Windows 95 Device Manager, determine if your adapter has been configured to use IRQ 9 and if so, remove the configuration. Next use the Device Manager to reserve IRQ 9 and then Restart your system. Perform the installation again and the problem should be corrected. If you suspect that your system is configured incorrectly, run the Express installation program and when asked if you want to keep or delete the current configuration select "Delete". Re-boot the system and run the installation program again. This time select "Keep" the current configuration. Re-boot the system and try making an AS/400 connection. 4. Enabling the PCIC Controller (Laptop Systems) If you are using a laptop computer, the PCIC Controller which supports your PC Card/PCMCIA adapters may have been disabled. If so, you will need to use the Windows 95 Device Manager to enable the PCIC Controller before using these drivers. 5. Changing Resource Settings If you are running the Express installation to support the "IBM 5250 Express ISA Adapter" in Non Plug & Play mode", you may need to pay special attention to the resources selected by Windows 95 during the installation process. These adapters can be set to use specific I/O resources. The factory default setting for the I/O address is 2710 - 271F. The installation program will attempt to acquire this address, but if Windows 95 is unable to honor the request, a new address will be chosen. This can be checked using the following procedure: a) Run the Express installation program as outlined above and Restart your computer. b) Highlight the "My Computer" icon on the Windows 95 desktop and click the RIGHT mouse button. c) Click on the "Properties" selection in the pull down menu to open the "System Properties" window. d) Click on the "Device Manager" tab. e) Double click the "Others" device entry in the list. The Adapter Name should now be displayed. f) Double click on the Adapter Name to display the adapter card properties. g) Click on the "Resources" tab. A window is displayed showing the resources used by your Twinax Adapter. The window labeled "Setting based on:" will show one of three configurations used to set up your environment. "Basic Configuration 0" and "Basic Configuration 1" are used to set your system to the factory default settings of the adapter. "Basic Configuration 2" will give you more flexibility in changing the settings. To make changes, highlight the Resource Type that you want to change and click on the "Change Setting..." button. Use the up and down arrows to change the selection and then click on the OK button. As you make changes to these resources you should watch the Conflict Information window to insure there are no conflicts with the resources you have chosen. To change the IO address on your adapter, refer to the "5250 Express Hardware Manual" that came with your adapter. h) After changing the resource settings, you should Restart your computer before making the AS400 connection. 6. Clean-up Notes For Previous DOS Driver Connections If you tried connecting using the DOS drivers prior to receiving this diskette, you may need to free up resources using the Windows 95 Device Manager. You probably did this if you have a 5250 ISA adapter or a 5250 PCMCIA adapter. If you placed the DOS driver lines in your Autoexec.bat file and manually reserved memory, interrupt, and I/O resources, you need to unreserve those resources. To do this, double click the "Computer" entry of the Windows 95 Device Manager and use the "Reserve Resources" tab to display the window for removing resources. This Install program will take care of cleaning up your Autoexec.bat file. 7. Recovering From a Partial Install If for any reason you are unable to complete the installation and you are unsure whether or not all of the required support has been installed, we recommend that you perform the install steps again. If you were unable to complete the install due to a resource conflict you must resolve the conflict using the Windows 95 Device Manager, Restart your computer, and then perform the installation steps again. ---------- *Windows NT Twinax Connectivity Steps* The following information can be found on the internet at: http://www.as400.ibm.com/clientaccess/twinaxnt.htm Before You Start 1. Type DSPNETA on an AS/400 command line and look for the following values. Make note of them in the blank spaces for future reference. AS/400 name (listed as Local Control Point Name) _____________________________ Local Network ID (referred to throughout this document as Net ID. APPN is the default) _____________________________ 2. Type WRKCTLD on an AS/400 command line and look for device types 2638, 6040, 6050, or 6140. Select a device and type 12 (to take Option 12 - Print device addresses). This prints a table that shows available address. Look at the port that your PC is connected to and choose an open address. Make note of it here for future reference. AS/400 Workstation address _____________________________ Before you can use a Twinaxial connection to run Client Access for Windows 95/NT on a PC running Windows NT, you must setup the adapter card device drivers. 1. Sign on to your PC as an administrator. 2. Click on My Computer. 3. Click on Control Panel. 4. Click on Devices. 5. Scroll down the list of devices until you find IBMtwx, IBMTwxNM, and IBMTwxSN. 6. Setup the devices by doing one of the following: A. 1. Start each of the above devices by highlighting the device and pressing the Start button. 2. So that these devices start automatically each time you start your PC, highlight each of these devices, click on the Setup button and select Automatic. or B. 1. Run the SETTWX utility by entering 'settwx' from your boot drive, directory \enb5250 (see section 'Express Tools' in this Readme for more information). 2. Click on the Twinax Driver Setup button. 7. Start the Connection Wizard. a. Right click on the Windows NT desktop. b. When you see a menu, highlight New. c. From the sub-menu select AS/400 System. 8. Select Next to continue. 9. When you see the Connection Provider dialog box, click on the arrow and select NetSoft NS/Router from the drop down menu. 10. Select Next to continue. 11. Enter the name of your AS/400 system. You wrote down this information in step 1. 12. Click the Start NetSoft Administrator button. 13. From the NS/Administrator dialog box, single right click on the right portion of the split screen and move the cursor to highlight New. 14. Select NS/Router from the pop-up menu. A dialog box showing an icon for a New NS/Router appears. 15. From this dialog box, right click on the New/NS Router icon and select Rename to rename this connection to match your AS/400 system name. 16. Again right click on the icon and select Properties. Click on the first tab Links, and select Twinax. 17. Select the Properties button. 18. Enter the Workstation Address in the data entry field. You wrote down this information in step 2. 19. Select OK to continue. 20. Click on the Systems tab and click the Add button. 21. Again type in the name of your AS/400 and verify that your Net ID is correct. This is the Local Network ID value from step 1. Do not fill in the User ID, Password, or Password Verification fields on this dialog box. 22. Click on OK. 23. Select the Local LU tab. Verify that the Net ID is the same as in step 1. Enter a unique computer name in the Use computer name field. This helps ensure that your PC location name is unique on the network. It also makes the NetSoft configuration portable. It can be exported and then imported to other PCs on the network (because the PC always uses its own computer name). 24. Select OK to continue. You are brought back to the NS/Administrator dialog box. 25. Double left click on the icon you just configured the properties for. This starts the Midrange Workspace. 26. From the Midrange Workspace dialog box verify that the system name is correct and the status is IDLE. 27. Select the single lightning bolt tool bar icon, which has a tip text of Connect System. Watch the lower half of this dialog box for messages. If an error occurs, NetSoft displays error information. The Netsoft event log shows detailed information on what caused the failure. 28. When prompted, enter your ID and Password and click on OK. Again, watch for messages in the lower portion of the dialog box. 29. You see the message: Connection to system XXXX has succeeded. Minimize the Midrange Workspace dialog box. Do Not Close It! 30. After minimizing the Midrange Workspace, you are back at the NS/Administrator dialog box. Close the NS/Administrator dialog box. You are now at the Add Connection Wizard screen. 31. Click the Refresh button. If the correct system name is not shown in the System field, click on the arrow and select the correct system name from the drop down list. 32. Select Next to continue. 33. Enter a Default User ID for the person that uses this PC. This can be a single user ID or a group profile ID. If you leave this entry box blank, you are prompted for a user ID each time you attempt to log on. 34. Click on Next to continue. 35. Select the Default View you want to use. 36. Select Next to continue. 37. Verify your connection to the AS/400 by clicking on the Verify Connection button. Watch the animated connection icon for status. 38. The word Verified shows in the Status box when a connection to the AS/400 has been established. 39. After your connection is verified, click on Finish. An icon is placed on your Windows 95/NT desktop. Double click on this icon to start the connection to your AS/400 system. 40. If the Connection does not work, there is probably a resource conflict involving IRQ, IO port and memory conflicts. To help identify the conflicts run the SETTWX utility or use the Windows NT Diagnostics program. The default resource values for the IBM Twinax adapter cards are: IRQ = 5 IO Port = 300 Memory address = CC000 If you find conflicts, you can try to change the device that conflicts, or you can change the resources that are used by the Twinax adapter card. To change the resource that is used by the Twinax adapter card, you must use the registry editor and change the following parameters: InterruptNumber = 5 IoBaseAddress = 300 MemoryMappedBaseAddress = cc000 in the following key for Express ISA adapters: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IBMTwx\Parameters in the following key for the Express PC Card adapter: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\IBMTwxSN1\Parameters Note: The PC BIOS handles PCI adapters automatically. 41. If the connection does work, go back to the devices prompt and change the start up values for the IBMTwx, IBMTwxNM, and IBMTwxSN devices to automatic. Select the device and press Startup. Choose Automatic instead of Manual from the list and click on OK. 42. Shut down and restart Windows NT 4.0. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9 - IBM PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Internet Address* If you would like to visit the IBM Personal Communications internet site, the address is: http://www.networking.ibm.com/pcf/pcfprod.html ---------- *Windows 3.1x and the 5250 Express PC Card* While running the 5250 Express Installation Program from Windows 3.1x and you select Express PC Card for the adapter and Support for IBM Personal Communications, you will be asked if you want the install to add ENB5250.EXE to your AUTOEXEC.BAT. ENB5250.EXE needs to be run before you start Windows 3.1x to enable the PC Card for this configuration. If you choose to have the install add this to your AUTOEXEC.BAT and you want to use the Express PC Card with a different application, you need to remark it out of your AUTOEXEC.BAT (edit AUTOEXEC.BAT and change the line to 'REM ENB5250.EXE') and restart your system first. ---------- *Express Configuration Notes* After you install a 5250 Express Adapter you must configure Personal Communications for the adapter. While in the Configuration function, if the Express adapter is not listed under "Adapter Type:" on the Configure TDLC Connection screen, you need to do the following: 1. For a 5250 Express ISA Adapter, select IBM Enhanced 5250 Display Station Emulation Adapter 2. For a 5250 Express PC Card, select IBM Emulation PCMCIA Adapter 3. For a 5250 Express PCI Adapter, also select IBM Emulation PCMCIA Adapter ---------- *Express PC Card, Personal Communications 4.1x, and Windows 95* If you are using this configuration and you are unable to make a successful connection with the host, you should check that the Express PC Card is configured at a supported interrupt. Using the Windows 95 Device Manager, check the Express PC Card Interrupt request (click on Express PC Card, Properties, Resources). If it is using an interrupt request greater than 7 then you need to change it to an interrupt less than or equal to 7 (click on Change setting). ---------- *Personal Communications 4.1x, Windows 3.1x, and the Express PC Card* If you have problems making a connection with the host with this configuration please note the following: If the Express PC Card is the only PCMCIA adapter in your system then you should configure the Express PC Card for Point Enable support (Hwconfig.exe, Change Adapter Configuration, Change PCMCIA support). If you have another PCMCIA adapter installed, then select PCMCIA Card Services for DOS in the Change PCMCIA Support menu and follow the procedure below for PCMCIA Card Services for DOS. After the adapter has been configured with the hwconfig.exe program, the hardware resources obtained from hwconfig.exe must be entered into Personal Communications' communication configuration section as described below. 1. Point Enable support notes: a) Run hwconfig.exe. Select Change Adapter Configuration, Change 5250 Emulation PCMCIA Adapter, Change Interrupt. Make sure to select an interrupt LESS than 9. Interrupt 5 is the default. b) Run hwconfig.exe. Select Change Adapter Configuration, Change 5250 Emulation PCMCIA Adapter, Change Memory. Select one of the following memory values: C000, C400, C800, CC00, D000, D400, D800, DC00. c) Run hwconfig.exe. Select Change Adapter Configuration, Change I/O Port List. Select I/O address value 2718. If you are still unable to make a connection, then go back to this I/O Port List and try address value 2418 or 2508. d) Run hwconfig.exe. Select Test Adapter Configuration from the 5250 Adapter Configuration Menu. The I/O Port address, Memory address, and Interrupt used will be displayed. Please make note of these values for the next step. e) Provide the hardware resource data to Personal Communications through the communication configuration screens or by editing the pcstdlc.dat file in the Personal Communications \private directory: 1. To enter the data through the Personal Communications' screens, select Communication, configure, configure, configure link and advanced. Using the hardware resource information from step d above, select the same values for the I/O Port address, Memory address, and Interrupt and save the configuration. 2. To enter the data directly, edit the pcstdlc.dat file in your Personal Communications \private directory. Find the [Enh5250EMAdapter] section and enter the hardware resource information from step d above. Enter the interrupt level next to the word IntLevel. Enter the first two characters of the memory address value next to the word MemAddr. Enter the middle two characters from the I/O address value next to the word IOAddr. Please read the instructions in the pcstdlc.dat file before completing the changes. 2. PCMCIA Card Services for DOS support notes: a) Run hwconfig.exe. Select Change Adapter Configuration, Change I/O Port List. Use the space bar to disable ALL addresses EXCEPT 0318, 2418, 2508, and 2718. b) Run hwconfig.exe. Select Change Adapter Configuration, Change Memory List. Use the space bar to disable the following addresses: C200, C600, CA00, CE00, D200, D600, DA00, and DE00. c) Run hwconfig.exe. Select Change Adapter Configuration, Change Interrupt List. Use the space bar to disable ALL interrupts ABOVE 7. d) Run hwconfig.exe. Select Test Adapter Configuration from the 5250 Adapter Configuration Menu. The I/O Port address, Memory address, and Interrupt used will be displayed. Please make note of these values for the next step. e) Provide the hardware resource data to Personal Communications through the communication configuration screens or by editing the pcstdlc.dat file in the Personal Communications \private directory: 1. To enter the data through the Personal Communications' screens, select Communication, configure, configure, configure link and advanced. Using the hardware resource information from step d above, select the same values for the I/O Port address, Memory address, and Interrupt and save the configuration. 2. To enter the data directly, edit the pcstdlc.dat file in your Personal Communications \private directory. It will copy updated files to your hard disk in the location of the currently installed version. If the install is successful, your IBM Enhanced Link program will be at version 3.01. This update also includes support for all of the IBM 5250 Express Adapters. After you have installed this update, before you run "dp5250", you need to do the following: 1. Enter "config" to start the Enhanced Link Configuration program. 2. Press Enter on the logo screen. 3. Select Save Session Configuration. 4. Select Exit. 5. Enter "hwconfig" to start the Hardware Configuration for IBM 5250 Adapters program. 6. Press Enter on the logo screen. 7. Choose Select Adapter Type. 8. Select the IBM 5250 Express adapter you have installed. 9. Select Exit. ---------- *Supported Environments* The IBM 5250 Enhanced Link Program Version 3.01 is supported under DOS 5.0 and above, a DOS box of OS/2 2.11 and above, and from the MS-DOS prompt of Windows 95. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 11 - EXPRESS PROGRAM LITE VERSION 4.0 NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Express Installation* This Express Installation option will copy the files needed to run the IBM Express Program Lite into the default directory c:\el5250 (unless the user changes the destination while running the install). This is a small, easy-to-use DOS based emulator that provides one 3196 display session to a S/36, S/38, or AS/400. It supports the 5250 Express Data Stream and the entire 5250 Emulation adapter family. Please refer to the 5250LITE.DOC installed with this option for more information. ---------- *Supported Environments* The IBM 5250 Enhanced Link Program Version 3.01 is supported under DOS 5.0 and above, and from the MS-DOS prompt of Windows 95. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 12 - EXPRESS INSTALLATION - ADAPTER SUPPORT ONLY ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This Express Installation option will copy the files needed to run the IBM Hardware Configuration for 5250 Adapters into the default directory c:\enb5250 on the hard disk you booted from (unless the user changes the destination while running the install). After installation is complete, change to this directory, and enter 'hwconfig'. You can then verify your Express adapter is installed correctly by selecting the Test Adapter Configuration option from the 5250 Adapter Configuration Menu. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 13 - 5250 FOR WINDOWS NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *ATTENTION 5250 Express ISA Adapter Owners* If you have a PC that configures PnP devices, you need to follow the steps below to allow 5250 for Windows to work with the 5250 Express ISA Adapter. 5250 for Windows will work with the 5250 Express ISA Adapter in non-PnP mode only. 1. Run the 5250 Express Installation Program located on the IBM 5250 Express Adapter Support diskette. During the installation process, select the IBM 5250 Express Adapter Support Only option. This option will place the necessary files on your hard drive to program the Express ISA Adapter in non-PnP mode. 2. Once the installation program has completed, change to the directory where the adapter support files were installed and type HWCONFIG and press enter. 3. From the 5250 Adapter Configuration menu, select the Select Adapter Type option. 4. Select the 5250 Express ISA Adapter from the Select Adapter Type menu. 5. Select the Change Adapter Configuration option from the 5250 Adapter Configuration Menu. 6. Disable PnP mode by selecting the Disable Plug-n-Play option from the Change Adapter Configuration menu. 7. Exit the HWCONFIG configuration program by pressing the appropriate function keys and following any directions that appear. 8. Power off the PC. The next time that you power on the PC, the adapter will be in non-PnP mode. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del does not reset the mode. 9. Follow the instructions in the 5250 for Windows User's Guide for configuring the IBM Enhanced 5250 Display Station Emulation Adapter. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 14 - IBM JAPANESE 5250WS NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you are using the Express ISA Adapter in PnP mode with this application, please note the following: 1. If you have a PC that configures PnP devices, you need to disable the PnP mode of the adapter first. Follow the steps in section 1 of this Readme, 5250 Express Adapters Notes, Disabling Plug and Play Mode of a 5250 Express ISA Adapter to do this. 2. When defining the Express ISA adapter, use "5250AT BUS connection adapter/II" (P/N:29H8420 in Japan, P/N:30F5383 in U.S.). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 15 - EXPRESS TOOLS ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *TWXEXP* This tool can be used with Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 and Client Access V3R1M2 AFTER running the Express installation program. This tool allows the setting and viewing of the configured Express Data Stream mode. The English version of this tool is copied to the \enb5250 directory on your boot drive when you run the Express installation program AND: 1. You are using Client Access V3R1M2 2. You are using Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 3. You select Client Access software support When the EDS function is first installed the EDS mode will default to 3 and it may not be explicitly added to the registry. If you use the TWPEXP program to set the EDS mode, it will then be added to the registry. If you change the EDS mode, you must close the NS Router before re-establishing your Client Access connection in order for your new setting to take effect. To run TWXEXP.EXE: a. On your boot drive, change to directory \enb5250 b. The format of TWXEXP is: TWXEXP [ 0 | 1 | 2 | 3 | Del | ? ] c. Enter 'twxexp' with one of the following options: No option - will display the current EDS mode 0 = will set EDS mode to 0, Both modes OFF 1 = will set EDS mode to 1, only Optimized mode ON 2 = will set EDS mode to 2, only 2 Mbps (2X) mode ON 3 = both modes ON (DEFAULT) Del = remove EDS from the registry, EDS will then default to 3 ? = display twxexp English help ---------- *SETTWX* This tool can be used with Windows NT 4.0 and Client Access V3R1M2 AFTER running the Express installation program. You select Client Access software support Refer to the SETTWX.TXT Readme file in the same directory for more information on how to use this tool. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 16 - TROUBLESHOOTING ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Unsuccessful Support Installations* While running the Express Installation Program, if you receive a message indicating the support you chose was not installed successfully, it may be for one of the following reasons: 1. There was not enough available space on the hard disk. 2. The destination directory did not exist and could not be created. ---------- *PC Card Diagnostics* Other PC Cards installed in your PC may cause the 5250 Express PC Card diagnostics to fail in rare instances.
