Restart # # your PC to complete the installation. # # # ####################################################################### If the installation procedure did not complete properly, see the following section to review the Windows Device Manager entries and resolve any hardware conflicts. 2.3.2 REVIEWING DEVICE MANAGER ENTRIES _______________________________________ Use this procedure to review entries in the Windows Device Manager window. To access the Device Manager window: 1. From the Windows Desktop, open the Control Panel from the Start Menu by clicking on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel. 2. Double-click on the SYSTEM icon. 3. Click on the DEVICE MANAGER tab. 4. If the installation was successful, a "Sound, video, and game controllers" entry will be displayed in the Device Manager window. Double-click on the entry to list the Crystal logical devices installed. 5. If the installation was not successful and Windows cannot resolve some hardware conflicts, the devices affected will be highlighted in the window and an exclamation mark will precede them. Double-click on the highlighted device to obtain more details about the problem encountered. If adequate resources are not available in the system, for example, not enough interrupts are left free, conflicts cannot be resolved by Plug and Play technology or Windows. Manual intervention might be necessary to modify the resource settings for the Crystal device. This might result in loss of function in a given system because some Crystal codec logical devices might have to be disabled. 6. Click on the SET CONFIGURATION MANUALLY button for more details. 7. Click on the USE AUTOMATIC SETTINGS check box to attempt to get all logical devices working correctly. 2.3.3 Win95/98 UNATTENDED INSTALLATION _______________________________________ The driver includes two executable files which may be used to enable unattended installation of the audio driver. If the system already has a Crystal Audio driver installed, one must uninstall the current audio driver, before installing the new driver. UNATTENDED UNINSTALL: To Uninstall the driver without using the GUI or having any questions asked: * To reboot the machine after uninstall, from the command line type: UNINSTAL -R * To NOT reboot the machine after uninstall, from the command line type: UNINSTAL -C UNATTENDED INSTALL (PRE-INSTALL): Pre-install After running Uninstal with the -c option, you can pre-install the audio driver by running PREINST.EXE. Upon reboot Win 95/98 will find new hardware, know where to get the drivers from and will do so without asking any question. PREINST is designed to be run from the command line. It will: 1. Copy all the INF files in the driver directory to C:\WINDOWS\INF\OEMx.INF, where x is a numeric not already in use. 2. Copy all the INF files in the driver directory to C:\WINDOWS\INF. It will rename the INF file by concatenating the provider listed in the INF file to the front of the name of the INF file. 3. Copy all files in the driver directory to the Sourcepath directory listed in the registry. IF THIS FAILS it will copy the files to C:\CRYTEMP. Upon the next reboot it will change the sourcepath in the registry back to itĘs original value. 4. The Sourcepath in the registry can be temporally modified and the files copied to a different directory by using the /S option. 5. The log is written to stdout. Pipe the output to a filename of your choice each time PREINST is run. Command line options There are several command line options: /F=path Location where driver files reside, where path is the full path to the driver files. Default is the current directory. /D Copy only the INF files. Do not copy the driver files. This option should be used if the Sourcepath in the registry is pointing to someplace on the network and the driver files are already there. /C Continue - DO NOT Reboot the machine upon completion. /S=path Location to copy driver files, Sourcepath in registry will be set to this value and will be reset to its original value upon reboot after the driver files are found EXAMPLE: preinst /F=c:\temp /R > M1.LOG - Will copy the driver files from the C:\temp directory, create the log file M1.LOG, and reboot the machine. Helpful Hints: A few assumptions have been made. 1. The Sourcepath in the registry points to place where the driver files either are or will be placed. This is usually the C:\Windows\Options\Cabs directory. 2. If the Sourcepath is not writeable and /d is not used, PREINST will create C:\crytemp and copy the files to that directory. 3. If the Sourcepath is not set in the registry, PREINST currently has a bug and will set Sourcepath to "preinst" 2.4 OS/2 WARP AUDIO DEVICE DRIVER __________________________________ This section contains the instructions for the OS/2 Warp audio device driver. 2.4.1 INSTALLING OS/2 WARP VERSION 3 AUDIO DEVICE DRIVER _________________________________________________________ To install the OS/2 Warp Version 3 audio device driver: 1.
