This software helps you get the most out of your Matrox graphics hardware. This software supports the following Matrox products: - Millennium G450 AGP - Millennium G450 PCI - Millennium G400 AGP - G200 MMS (Multi-Monitor Series) Software installation ===================== To install this software, start the "setup" program included with it, then follow the on-screen instructions. The setup program only installs software if a Matrox product that it supports is properly installed in your computer. Unattended installation (for advanced users) ======================= If you need to set up this software on many computers, you can partially automate the process by using the following command-line options with the setup program: SILENT ------ Description: Enable (or disable) "silent" mode Syntax: /SILENT=yes|no Short form: /S=yes|no Variables: "yes" to use silent mode; "no" to not use silent mode Example: SETUP /S=yes Details: If this option is set to "yes", the installation is performed without any prompting -- no user interface is displayed at all. If this option isn't used, silent mode isn't used. LANGUAGE -------- Description: Specify language Syntax: /LANGUAGE=id Short form: /LANG=id Variables: "id" can be one of the following 3-letter abreviations: ENG = English FRE = French ITA = Italian GER = German SPA = Spanish EPO = Portuguese (European) BPO = Portuguese (Brazilian) DUT = Dutch FIN = Finnish DAN = Danish SWE = Swedish NOR = Norwegian CHN = Chinese (Traditional) PRC = Chinese (Simplified) JPN = Japanese KOR = Korean THA = Thai Example: SETUP /LANG=ENG Details: If you you're using silent mode, this option determines the language of the installation. If you're not using silent mode, this option determines the default language selected when you're prompted to select a language. Depending on the software package you have, all languages may not be available. If a language isn't available, English (if available) is used. REBOOT ------ Description: Restart (or don't restart) computer at end of setup Syntax: /REBOOT=yes|no Short form (yes): /R Short form (no): /N Variables: "yes" or "/R" to restart; "no" or "/N" to not restart Examples: SETUP /REBOOT=no SETUP /N Details: If you're using silent mode, this option determines whether your computer restarts at the end of the software installation. If you're not using silent mode, this option determines what the default restart setting is. DISPLAYMODE ----------- Description: Specify the default display mode Syntax: /DISPLAYMODE=hres,vres,palette,dpi Short form: /MODE=hres,vres,palette,dpi Variables: "hres" is the horizontal resolution; "vres" is the vertical resolution; "palette" is the number of bits per pixel for the color palette (8, 16, 24, or 32); "dpi" is the number of dots per inch (96 = "Small Fonts", 120 = "Large Fonts") Example: SETUP /MODE=1024,768,16,96 (1024 x 768 resolution, 16-bit color palette, small fonts) Details: For this option to be processed properly, all the variables must be specified (without spaces). If there's more than one graphics controller in the computer, the specified mode is applied to all graphics controllers supported by the setup program. WARNING: The specified mode may be applied even if the display driver can't support it. The setup program doesn't validate the specified mode. Uninstalling software ===================== To remove the Matrox display driver or other Matrox software: Note: Before removing software, make sure you have all the necessary files to reinstall software that may still be needed. Also, make sure the display driver you reinstall supports all Matrox products in your computer. 1. "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Control Panel" -> "Add/Remove Programs" (double-click) -> "Matrox Graphics Software (remove only)" -> "Add/Remove" -> "Yes". 2. Matrox files will be deleted from your system and Matrox entries removed from your Windows registry. When prompted to restart your computer, click "Yes" Note: You can perform an unattended uninstall with the following command: pduninst.exe /s /n - "/s" is for "silent mode" (no user interaction) - "/n" is for "no Windows restart" - "pduninst.exe" is installed in your Windows "system32" folder Notes, problems, and limitations ================================ - Matrox bus mastering This driver supports bus mastering. Bus mastering is a feature that allows expansion devices to perform tasks at the same time as your computer's CPU. If you have a fast Pentium computer (faster than 166 MHz), the display performance of most programs is improved when bus mastering is used. To use bus mastering with 3D (DirectX) programs, your graphics controller needs an interrupt request (IRQ). Most computers automatically assign an IRQ to graphics controllers, but some don't. If your graphics controller hasn't been assigned an IRQ, programs that use Matrox bus mastering may not work properly. For more information, see your Matrox or system manual. - DirectDraw and Automatic Power Management As stated in "Microsoft DirectX Release Notes", September 30, 1995, a DirectDraw game may be unable to restore properly if it is suspended by Automatic Power Management utilities. - Installation in different language versions of Windows If you install software in a language different from the language of your operating system (for example, English software on a Japanese system), you may have problems with text and dialog box controls being cut off. This is because of differences in system fonts. - OpenGL support Note the following limitations related to the OpenGL driver included with some Matrox display drivers: - OpenGL support may not be included in some versions Matrox display drivers. For a version of Matrox PowerDesk with OpenGL support enabled, see the Matrox Web site (www.matrox.com/mga). - With the "Tribes" game, you may notice some minor display artifacts and the opening video introduction may not display properly. - Using 3D Studio Max 2.0, you may experience problems with the viewports being improperly redrawn. If this happens, simply click in a viewport to properly update their display. (This problem isn't present with version 2.5 or 3.0 of 3D Studio Max.) - DualHead Multi-Display mode under Windows 2000 If you have a DualHead-supporting graphics controller and you apply "DualHead Multi-Display" mode under Windows 2000, Matrox PowerDesk automatically clears the Windows check box called "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display". (This check box is in the advanced settings of the "Display Properties" dialog box.) Under Windows 2000, please don't re-enable this check box while using DualHead Multi-Display mode -- doing so may cause problems. When DualHead Multi-Display mode is disabled, this option will be automatically restored to its previous setting. For more information on DualHead Multi-Display mode, see context-sensitive help. Software updates and technical support ====================================== You can obtain display driver updates from IBM at the following Web location: http://www.us.pc.ibm.com/files/html (do a search on "drivers") For technical problems, you can contact the IBM HelpDesk at 1-800-772-2227. Refresh rates ============= The resolutions and refresh rates supported by the Matrox display driver depend on the graphics controller you're using, the monitor you're using, and the monitor selected in the software. Higher refresh rates generally result in less noticeable screen flicker. For information on how to change monitor settings with Windows, see Windows documentation. To customize your Windows monitor settings, you can use the Matrox "Monitor Settings" property sheet. To access this property sheet, right- click your Windows desktop background, then click "Properties" -> "Settings" -> "Advanced" -> "Monitor Settings". (If you're using Windows multi-display mode, select a display before clicking "Advanced".) For more information on this property sheet, see the context-sensitive help. Display modes supported ======================= The display modes (resolution and color palette combinations) supported depend on many factors. Among other things, they depend on the graphics controller you're using, the amount of graphics memory available, and what 3D features are enabled. Below is a table listing supported display modes.
