Please obtain the additional package, Embedded Controller Program Version 1.05 (or higher), and update Embedded Controller Program in the system with it. - If you need to update Embedded Controller Program as well as the BIOS, update the BIOS first. - This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. What This Package Does ---------------------- This ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility updates the system BIOS program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as Noted below. This release supports the following system: - ThinkPad T30 The supported operating systems are as follows: - Windows 98 and 98 Second Edition - Windows Me(*) - Windows 2000 - Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or later - Windows XP Note(*): Only the following T30 models support Windows Me: 2366/2367-x1x, x2x, x3x, x4x, x5x, A6x and A7x except for M1x, M2x, M3x, M4x and M5x. Note: A hard disk password should be entered at resume time from suspend after hot swapped into above systems. <2.05 - 1IET66WW> Note: Version 1.03(1IHT16WW) or higher of the Embedded Controller Program is required. - (Fix) (Windows XP) Some multi-function type of CardBus cards may not work after resuming normal operation from standby mode. - (Fix) Boot priority for the network boot does not become to the default setting, if an F9 key is pressed twice in BIOS Setup Utility. - (Fix) (Windows XP and Windows 2000) If the LCD panel is closed immediately after Fn + F12 keys to go into the hibernation mode are pressed, the LCD screen may remain turned off after the LCD panel is opened. <2.06 - 1IET67WW> Note: Version 1.03(1IHT16WW) or higher of the Embedded Controller Program is required. - (New) Enhance thermal control. <2.08 - 1IET69WW> Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.05 (or higher). - (Fix) (Windows XP and Windows 2000) The system may resume normal operation from standby mode when the LCD panel is opened even though "Do nothing" for "When I close the lid of my portable computer" is selected in the Power Options. - (New) Enhancement of the battery control. - (New) Updated Intel Mobile Pentium-4 processor microcode. <2.09 - 1IET70WW> Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.05 (or higher). - (New) Updated Intel Mobile Pentium-4 processor microcode. <2.10 - 1IET71WW> Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.05 (or higher). - (New) Support IBM 11bg Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter. Installation instructions ------------------------- Notes: - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in the RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS. - If a USB Diskette Drive is attached to your computer, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Start Windows 2000/XP and logon with administrative privileges on the target computer. 4. Extract this package to the hard drive. 5. Click the Start button, then click Run. 6. Specify the file name with the full path name where you extracted the package. (e.g. C:\Temp\1IUJ12US.EXE) Then click OK. Hint: For unattended update, specify the file name with options "-s -a -s". (e.g. C:\Temp\1IUJ12US.EXE -s -a -s) The BIOS is updated without any user interaction. 7. Follow the instructions on the screen. Depending on the operating system configuration, restarting the operating system and rerunning this BIOS update utility may be required. In this case, the following message will appear. "DeviceIoControl() returns 2 Please restart your operating system and execute the BIOS or Embedded Controller update utility again." Windows will shut down automatically and ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility screen appears. 8. Select Read this first from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 9. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 10. Select Update system program and follow the instruction on the screen. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, the system is automatically turned off. Initializing System Program (BIOS) ---------------------------------- BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive. 3. Turn on the computer. 4. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 5. Press the F9 key to load default configuration. 6. Select Yes. 7. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit. 8. Select Yes. After the initialization has been completed, the system restarts automatically. BIOS Information ---------------- Each version of the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility contains the following system program (BIOS). The BIOS Version and the date can be viewed by running ThinkPad Configurator from your operating system and selecting the System Information button or by invoking BIOS Setup Utility. 1. Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive, then turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the Press F1 for BIOS Setup Utility message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. The BIOS version and date are displayed on the first screen of the BIOS Setup Utility.
