What This Package Does ---------------------- This ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility updates the system BIOS program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. ("Timer Wake with Battery Operation" in "Power", "Require password after hibernate" in "Security" then "Password") - (Fix) Brightness level of LCD may be changed after resuming from standby mode. <1.20 - 1.20 (1OET54WW)> - (Fix) The clock frequency (speed) of CPU is not set to the highest speed in battery mode even if "Intel(R) SpeedStep technology" option of "Power" of "Config" in the "IBM BIOS Setup Utility" menu is set to Enabled and its "Mode for Battery" option is set to "Maximum Performance". <1.21 - 1.21 (1OET55WW)> - (Fix) CPU Microcode update. <1.21 - 1.21 (1OET55WW)> - (Fix) When ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility is executed on Win98, System stops with beep sound at shutdown. Note: There is no update in BIOS. So if 1OET55WW has been already used in system, no update is required. <1.23 - 1.23 (1OET57WW)> - (Fix) When LCD brightness is set to max at BIOS setup menu, LCD brightness may be changed to low when AC adapter is detached(Battery operation). If you use Battery Maximizer to control LCD brightness, BIOS setting of LCD brightness is ignored. Installation instructions ------------------------- Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Before using this BIOS Update Utility with Windows 98 Second Edition, IBM recommends applying the Windows 98 Second Edition Shutdown Supplement from the Microsoft Web site Knowledge Base Article ID Q239887. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Start a supported version of Windows on the target computer. 4. Make the temporary directory on the hard disk drive (for instance, C:\Temp) 5. Download the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility from the web site and store the file into the temporary directory. 6. Click the Start button, then click Run. 7. In the Open dialogue box, specify the utility filename with the full path name where you stored ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility. (E.g. C:\Temp\1OUJ20US.EXE) Then press the Enter key. 8. Follow the instructions on the screen. Windows will shut down automatically and the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility screen will appear. Note: Depending on the operating system configuration, restarting the operating system and rerunning this BIOS update utility may be required. In this case, the following message will appear on the screen. "DeviceIoControl() returns 2. Please restart your operating system and execute the BIOS or Embedded Controller update utility again." 9. When completed, the system is automatically turned off. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. If you turn off or suspend the computer while the update is still in progress, the system board may have to be replaced. After the update has been completed, do the following to make the changes effective. 10.Turn on the computer. 11.While the To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button message is displayed at the lower-left of the screen, press the Access IBM button. 12.Double-click the IBM BIOS Setup Utility icon. The IBM BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 13.Verify the BIOS version and date. Unattended Installation: 1. Do the same instructions above from step 1 to step 6. 2. Specify filename with the full path name where you stored ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility with options " -s -a -s". (E.g. C:\Temp\1OUJ20US.EXE -s -a -s) Then press Enter. Windows shutting down automatically. Then, system BIOS program is updated without any user interaction. BIOS Information ---------------- Each version of the ThinkPad BIOS Update Utility contains the following system program (BIOS). The BIOS Version and the date can be viewed by running ThinkPad Configurator from your operating system and selecting the System Information button or by invoking IBM BIOS Setup Utility. 1. Make sure there is no diskette in the diskette drive, then turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3.
