Tips for all Cisco wireless models ----------------------------------------------------------------- (1) Access Connections supports Cisco LEAP Authentication when you create a location profile with LEAP settings enabled. To utilize this feature, re-install the Cisco Aironet Client utility version 6.3.011 or later with the LEAP authentication feature selected. Run IWSETUP.EXE to install the Utility and choose the "LEAP" option at the Select Options menu of the installer. The Cisco Aironet Client utility is contained in an additional package, "Wireless LAN Software for Cisco Wireless LAN MiniPCI Card for Windows 98/Me/NT 4.0/2000/XP for ThinkPad". (2) If IBM Client Security Software (CSS) is installed and "to manage pass phrase using User Verification Manager for log-on authentication" is enabled, re-install the Utility (Cisco Aironet Client Utility) again after the IBM Client Security Software is installed. 10.Tips for Cisco Aironet 340/350 Series PC Card -------------------------------------------------------------------- There are some known issues using Access Connections when your wireless LAN adapter card is one of the following: - Cisco Aironet 340 Series PC card - Cisco Aironet 350 Series PC card Access Connections feature of "Find Wireless Network " and "Automatic Location Profile Switching" function will not work. Device driver update is required to version 3.5.13 or higher and firmware version 5.20.17 or higher. IBM recommends contacting Cisco Systems, Inc. to get the latest device driver from the URL below http://www.cisco.com/public/sw-center/sw-wireless.shtml. 11. Import/Export location profile for wireless adapter --------------------------------------------------------------------- Access Connections version 2.2 or later enabled to import/export location profile for wireless adapter. However, function is limited not to export "WEP Key" due to keep security as much as possible. If location profile for wireless adapter is imported, it is required to input "WEP Key" again. 12. Unattended uninstallation --------------------------------------------------------------------- This is for system administrators' use only. 1. Start Windows 2000/XP, logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click Start, then click Run. 3. Type the following command line SETUP.EXE -s -SMS -remove -f1 : full path of the "uninst.iss" 13. Tips for PEAP-GTC --------------------------------------------------------------------- -With using "Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter", PEAP-GTC authentication only supported for saved user ID/password. Software/hardware token is not supported. -PEAP-GTC with domain log on connection is not supported. -Wireless encryption of AES is not supported for PEAP-GTC. 14. Tips for EAP-TTLS --------------------------------------------------------------------- Only MS-CHAP-V2 authentication protocol is supported as password protocol(tunneling protocol). Any other password protocol such as EAP-TLS, EAP-MD5 or EAP-Token is not supported. 15. Tips for automatic location profile switching using Ethernet adapter. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ IBM Access Connections version 3.0 or later supports automatic location profile switching for location profiles which uses Ethernet Adapter. (Limitation: The Ethernet connection must be configured in DHCP mode). It enabled to remember multiple ethernet port information per profile. This new feature allows sharing single ethernet profile at different places without losing automatic location switching. This feature eliminates having to manually apply the Ethernet profile every time you return to locations. IBM Access Connections will activate the Ethernet profile for your multiple Ethernet port locations when you simply connect an Ethernet cable to your computer. This requires the following steps to use: - Enable "Switch Ethernet and Wireless Location Profiles Automatically" from "Location Switching" menu. - Select your Ethernet location profile (e.g., Office-AB profile) and connect manually. - Then, Access Connections prompts you to input your comment (e.g., Office-A) to identify your Ethernet port location data and save it internally. - When you move to another location and connect to another Ethernet port, do the same steps to save the Ethernet port location information (e.g., Office-B). When you choose the existing location profile (e.g., Office-AB profile), this Ethernet port location information will be added in the profile. - Next time, when you connect to the Ethernet port in Office-A or in Office-B, Access Connections loads the associated location profile (i.e. Office-AB) automatically. - Thus, Access Connections remembers multiple Ethernet port location information associated with one Ethernet location profile so that Ethernet port detection can be made automatically next time when you connect to the same ports. 16. Tips for network diagnostics and auto error recovery. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IBM Access Connections version 3.0 or later supports new feature of network diagnostics when you unable to make network connection. It shows detail progress of connection status and you can find suspected reason of failure and recommended action. Access Connections also offers an automatic repair button to recover the network connection in some cases. 17. Tips for profile switching by Fn+F5 hotkey. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- -IBM Access Connection version 3.0 or later supports new feature of switching location profile by Fn+F5 hotkey. To utilize this feature, "ThinkPad Hotkey Features" should be updated to version 1.05.0481 or later. -The Fn+F5 hotkey are NOT supported in the following ThinkPad: - ThinkPad A20m, A20p, A21m, A21p, A22m, A22p - ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p - ThinkPad s31 - ThinkPad R30, R31, R32 - ThinkPad T20, T21, T22, T23 - ThinkPad T30 - ThinkPad X22, X23, X24 - ThinkPad X30 -The Fn+F5 hotkey are only supported in mini-PCI Wrieless LAN Adapters. 18. Tips for IBM 11a/b/g Wireless CardBus Adapter. -------------------------------------------------------------------- -After installing IBM 11a/b/g Wireless CardBus Adapter driver, IBM Acccess Connections need to be re-installed to recognize the card support. -IBM 11a/b/g Wireless CardBus Adapter cannot be used on ThinkPads equipped with internal Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter at the same time. Please disable the internal wireless adapter using the following steps: 1. Start Windows 2000/XP and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click "Start", "Settings", then "Control Panel" 3. Click "Add or Remove Programs" 4. Click "Intel(R) Sebring API" listed under "Currently installed programs" 5. Click "Remove" and follow the instructions on the screen. 6. Restart the system If you would like to use the internal Intel(R) PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter again, please enable it using the following steps: 1. Start Windows 2000/XP and logon with administrative privileges. 2. Click "Start", then "Run" 3. Type "C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS\WLLANINT\APPS\API\SebrngApi.exe" 4. Click "OK" and follow the instructions on the screen. 5. Restart the system -There is one known limitation using Access Connections with the device driver version 2.4.1.21 on Windows XP. When a LEAP profile is connected, you cannot create an 802.1x EAP-TLS profile. Tips for Windows XP service pack 2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Access Connections will update security settings of all existing profiles depending on Windows XP service pack2 installation. When the Windows XP Service Pack 2 is installed and the Internet Firewall Settings is enabled (this is default), Access Connecitons will automatically change the "Internet Connection Firewall" setting to "enabled" in profiles. This is required to avoid security warnings from Windows XP, however, user can revert back the "Internet Connection Firewall" settings by editing each profile.
