Version 2.11-01 Issue date February 23, 2007 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT THIS PACKAGE DOES This package is to update the BIOS (including system program and Embedded Controller program) stored in the ThinkPad computer to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. If Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit version has been installed on your computer, use the BIOS Update CD for BIOS update. This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE Version 2.11-01 [Important Updates] Nothing. [New functions or enhancements] Nothing. [Problem fixes] - BIOS update can not be done on Windows Vista 32-bit. (No BIOS was changed.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version. 5. Turn off the computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES This package does not work on Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit version. Use the BIOS Update CD for BIOS update on Windows Vista 64-bit. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATING BIOS Notes: - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) environment or similar environment. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS. - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - If a USB Diskette Drive is attached to your computer, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. 1. Print these instructions or display on another system. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the system. 3. Start Windows and logon with administrative privileges on the target system. 4. Extract this package onto the hard drive. Default extraction directory is C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7cuj15us. 5. For Windows Vista, Click Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, then click Run... For Windows XP and 2000, Click Start, then click Run... 6. Specify a WINTPUP.EXE with the full path name where you extracted the package. (e.g. C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7cuj15us\WINYPUP.EXE) and then click OK. Note: For unattended update, specify the file name with options "-s". (e.g. C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7CUJ15US\WINUPTP.EXE -s) The BIOS is updated without any user interaction. 7. Follow the instructions on the screen. 8. Select 'Update ThinkPad BIOS' and follow the instructions on the screen. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, the program shows a message 'Flash Update has been successfully completed...' Press 'Yes' to restart the system. Do the following to make sure the BIOS is updated correctly. 9. Turn off the computer. 10. Turn on the computer. 11. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. 12. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 13. Verify the BIOS Version. 14. Turn off the computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- INITIALIZING BIOS BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS setup: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. 4. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If you have set a supervisor password, the BIOS Setup Utility menu appears after you enter the password. 5. Press the F9 key to load default configuration. 6. Select Yes. 7. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit. 8. Select Yes. After the initialization has been completed, the system restarts automatically. (BIOS) Note: Need to upgrade a display driver to version 6.14.10.4693 or later to fix this problem. <2.07> - (Fix) Needs to enter a BIOS supervisor password after BIOS update to 7CETB6WW/2.06 from 7CET50WW/1.05(or older version), if the BIOS supervisor password is set at BIOS update. Note: This problem does not occur, once the system booted with BIOS 7CETB6WW. If your R60 runs without problems after installing 7CETB6WW/2.06, no need to update to 7CETB7WW/2.07. <2.08> - (New) Maximum Graphics Memory size increases to 224MB. (BIOS) - (Fix) If the computer is forcibly shut down by special conditions (like the power button being pressed for seconds or the battery down in suspend mode), the computer may not work after power on. (BIOS) - (Fix) The computer may be shutdown by a certain 3G GPRS card in the PC card slot. (EC) - (Fix) Once Active Protection System is disabled, it cannot be enabled again until the system is restarted. (EC) <2.10> - (Fix) POST error 1804 may appear at system power on with some types of USB devices. (BIOS) - (Fix) System hang or wrong data access to hard disk drive in reading or writing may happen, when EMM386.EXE is used at system boot from PC-DOS of USB memory key. (BIOS) - (Fix) The PC cards using I/O port 2F8(COM2) may not be recognized. (BIOS) <2.11> - (New) Support of Microsoft Windows Vista(32-bit/64-bit). (BIOS) - (Fix) Yellow "?" mark may appear at "Texas Instruments PCI-1510 CardBus Controller" in a PCMCIA of the Windows Device Manager. <2.11-01> - (Fix) BIOS update can not be done on Windows Vista 32-bit.
