---------------------------------------------------------------------- Software Name BIOS Update CD (ISO format for bootable CD) Support models ThinkPad T60, T60p widescreen models Operating Systems Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit (*1) Microsoft Windows XP (Home Edition and Professional) Microsoft Windows 2000 Version 1.09 Issue date Jun 8, 2007 *1: Windows Vista 64-bit supports Intel Core 2 Duo mobile processors only. - Some of Windows Vista preloads don't have a software utility to write a ISO format file to a optical disc. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT THIS PACKAGE DOES This package is to update the BIOS (including system program and Embedded Controller program) stored in the ThinkPad computer to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. In order to enable the BIOS update by booting the computer from the CD-R/CD-RW disc, disregarding the operating system, this package is compiled into an ISO format which is compatible with CD-R/CD-RW writing software. For that purpose, it is necessary to have the CD-R/CD-RW writing software (with CD-R/CD-RW creation function from the ISO image) prepared separately. This program is language independent and can be used with any language system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CHANGES IN THIS RELEASE Version 1.09 [Problem fix] - On the T60 models installed the ATI 5250 chipset with connecting NEC monitor, Phenomenon of flicker is intermittently displayed on NEC monitor. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- DETERMINING WHICH VERSION IS INSTALLED 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version. 5. Turn off the computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES 1. In order to enable the BIOS update by booting the computer from the CD-R/CD-RW disc, it is necessary to prepare the CD-R/CD-RW writing software, such as RecordNow! writing software. If your version of RecordNow! does not have a "Burn Image" entry, upgrade RecordNow! from the following site. http://www.lenovo.com/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-43887 2. The CD-R/CD-RW disc for the BIOS update does not support any optical disc drives connected through USB devices, PC Cards, CardBus cards or installed into the Ultrabay of the Docking Station. It only supports internal CD-RW, CD-RW/DVD Combo and DVD Multi drives for the ThinkPad. 3. To boot the computer from the internal optical disc drive, your ThinkPad computer may need to change the boot device setting. Refer to the "Prepare boot device" section in this document. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CREATING THE BIOS UPDATE DISC This section is written for use with RecordNow! to create the bootable CD. Refer to the product manual when using other CD writing programs. 1. Make sure you have a ThinkPad with a CD-RW, CD-RW/DVD combo, or DVD multidrive installed and a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc. 2. Start Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and logon with administrative privileges. 3. Download the ISO file. 4. For Windows Vista, click Start, then click Start Search. For Windows XP, 2000, click Start, then click Run... 5. Specify the path where you downloaded the file, then click OK. RecordNow! or the default recording software will open. Example: C:\temp\7iuj05uc.iso 6. Follow the instructions on the screen. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PREPARING THE BOOT DEVICE Confirm that an Optical Disc Drive is in the boot device list of your BIOS setup. 1. Restart the computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATING THE BIOS Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Version Information section. - You need an AC adapter, a charged battery pack and internal CD-RW, CD-RW/DVD Combo or DVD Multi drive to update the BIOS. - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in the RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) or similar environment. Attention: Do not turn off, suspend the computer or remove the BIOS UPDATE CD until the update has been completed. IF YOU DO THAT WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. 1. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 2. Make sure you have a ThinkPad with a CD-RW, CD-RW/DVD, combo or DVD Multi drive installed. 3. Insert the BIOS Update CD into the drive and turn on the computer. 4.
