If Windows Vista 64-bit is already installed on your system, then you must use the bootable CD version of this BIOS update. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Check BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version. 5. Turn off the computer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES - If Windows Vista 64-bit is already installed on your system, then you must use the bootable CD version of this BIOS update. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATING THE BIOS Notes: - If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Version Information section. - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the BIOS. - If your computer is attached to any kind of docking station or port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. - Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in the RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) or similar environment. Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU DO THAT WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. Manual Update 1. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 2. Start Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and logon with administrative privileges. 3. Double-click 7suj04us.exe to extract it to your hard drive. The default location is C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7suj04us.exe 4. For Windows Vista, Click Start, select All Programs, select Accessories, then click Run... For Windows XP, Click Start, then click Run... 5. Specify WINUPTP.EXE with the full path name where you saved the package, then click OK. Example: C:\DRIVERS\FLASH\7suj04us\WINUPTP.EXE 6. Follow the instructions on the screen. 7. Select 'Update ThinkPad BIOS' and follow the instructions on the screen. 8. After the update has been completed, the program shows a message 'Flash Update has been successfully completed...'. Follow the instructions on the screen to restart the computer. Unattended Update This procedure is intended only for system administrators. The BIOS is updated without any user interaction. - Refer to the Manual Update section, and download and extract the files. - At the command line, execute WINUPTP.EXE with the -S option. To initialize the BIOS settings: 1. Turn off the computer. 2. Turn on the computer. 3. While the "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The BIOS Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 4. Press the F9 key to load default configuration. 5. Select Yes. 6. Press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit. 7. Select Yes. 8. Restart the computer.
