Flash BIOS update - Flash from Operating System version for IBM(R) IntelliStation(R) E Pro 6204 and 6214 systems for IBM(R) NetVista(R) 2292, 6343, 6349, 6350, 6790, 6791, 6792, 6793, 6794, 6795, 6823, and 6825 systems version 20KT24A README This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) on IBM IntelliStation(E) E Pro 6204 and 6214 systems and IBM NetVista(R) 2292, 6343, 6349, 6350, 6790, 6791, 6792, 6793, 6794, 6795, 6823, and 6825 systems. BIOS is programming that controls low-level hardware operations, including interactions with diskette drives, hard disk drives, and the keyboard. The BIOS is stored on a chip. Your computer uses flash BIOS, which can be updated through a program on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the BIOS chip to update the BIOS. Note: Make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS Configuration Utility. These settings may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Extracting the update --------------------- 1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and Folders. 2. Type 20jy24usa.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the 20jy24usa.exee file you just downloaded. 3. Double-click the icon for 20jy24usa.exe. 4. Click Next. Read the license agreement 5. Click I Agree. The installation folder should be C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\20JY24US. 6. Click Finish. You will be prompted with a message stating "The specified output folder does not exist. Create it?" 7. Click Yes. You will be prompted with a message stating "The package has been delivered successfully." 8. Click OK. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Close all open applications. 2. Click Start, then click Run. 3. Type C:\IBMTOOLS\FLASH\20JY24US\WINPHLASH.EXE. 4. Click OK. 5. Select Backup BIOS and Flash BIOS with new settings. 6. Click Flash BIOS. You will told to save your work and close all other applications. 7. Click OK. Your system will automatically shutdown and restart so that the changes will take effect. Flash Changes ------------- General Information: 20JTxxA is the flash diskette level. 20KTxxA is the binary image level. (BIOS) NOTE: All changes carry forward. That is, if a change is added in 01, it is also in 02, 03 etc. CHANGES for 20KTxxA/20JTxxA: 20KT18A/20JT18A - Initial Release 20KT19A/20JT19A - Speed-up time to resume from S3 20KT20A/20JT20A - Correct stuck key detect not working consistently - Correct Wake On Events not booting to correct devices - Don't beep if ECC/non-ECC memory are mixed 20KT21A/20JT21A - Expose the partition table of zip diskettes - Set ICH2 COPROC_ERR_EN bit - Disable USB PCI devices if Disabled in Setup - Fix problem of fans running at full speed after S3 resume 20KT22A/20JT22A - Print PreBoot Notification Text (if any) before booting. - Fix APM Bios mode by changing the Setup questions. - Fix 101 Keyboard "Problem Device" when no PS/2 devices present. - Implements Customer Data Area, 500 byte string to DMI 131 structure. 20KT23A/20JT23A - Add code to report DMI System Enclosure based on Model. - This bios will operate hard drives in UDMA 5 mode under W2K and XP. - Remove the DEVICE_DISABLED multiboot option. - Fix CD boot problem - were rejecting Data CDs that had the Copy Permitted bit turned on. NOTE: When 20KT21A or earlier is flashed over 20KT23A or later, the DMI Type 3 "Asset Tag" string will be lost, because in the earlier bios there is no place to store it. 20KT24A/20JT24A - Fix zip drive under W98 - send partition table command to drive with argument always set to "Expose".
