Flash BIOS update - bootable diskette version version 460024i Installation README This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) on Aptiva 2270-xxx and NetVista 2276-xxx systems. This file may also be used to correct the error "BIOS Configuration Is Not Compatible." BIOS is programming that controls low-level hardware operations, including interactions with diskette drives, hard drives, and the keyboard. The BIOS is stored on a chip. Your computer uses flash BIOS, which can be updated through a program on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the BIOS chip to update the BIOS. Note: Make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS Configuration Utility. These settings may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the Web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file, be sure to select a path that does not have a space in its name. Extracting the update --------------------- Installing this update involves creating a BIOS flash diskette and running the flash program from the diskette. Before you begin, have a blank 1.44 MB diskette ready. 1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and Folders. 2. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive. 3. Type 2270bios.exe in the search field, click Find Now. This will locate the file you just downloaded. 4. Double-click the 2270bios.exe icon. 5. Follow the onscreen prompts. The necessary files will be extracted to the diskette. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Close all open applications. 2. Leave the diskette in the A: drive, and shut down and restart the computer to start the BIOS flash program. The following prompt will appear: *************************************************************** *** This program will now update the BIOS of your IBM PC. *** *** Please refer to the readme.txt file included with this *** *** diskette for further information. *** *************************************************************** 3. Press any key. If you see the following screen, press Y: *************************************************************** ***** This PC was not properly identified as IBM PC ****** ***** This could be due to a replaced system board. ****** *************************************************************** Are you sure you want to flash this BIOS update? 4. The flash memory writer program will then load. Allow this to continue uninterrupted. DO NOT turn off the the computer while the update is running. After the flash is complete, you will be asked "Is this the correct serial number for your computer?" 5. If the serial number listed is not correct, press N, then enter your serial number. If it is correct, press Y. The following prompt will appear: ************************************************************* * Remove the diskette from Drive A: and Reboot the system * ************************************************************* 6. Remove the floppy diskette, then hold in the power button to turn the computer off. 7. Turn the computer on. Hold down the F1 key to go into the BIOS setup utility. 8. From the menu, select "Autoconfigure with Optimal Settings", then press Enter. Press Y, then press Enter. 9. From the menu, select "Autodetect Hard Disks", then press Enter. This will bring you to another screen. Press the Esc key. This will bring you to the main BIOS menu. 10. Press the F10 key on your keyboard. Press Y, then press Enter. WARNING: Do not under any circumstance power off or restart the system during the Flash update procedure. Doing so will critically damage your system.
