Flash BIOS update - bootable diskette version for IBM(R) NetVista(R) 2284 computers P8JT02A README This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) on NetVista(R) model 2284 computers. BIOS is programming that controls low-level hardware operations, including interactions with diskette drives, hard disk drives, and the keyboard. The BIOS is stored on a chip. Your computer uses flash BIOS, which can be updated through a program on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the BIOS chip to update the BIOS. NOTE: Make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS Configuration Utility. These settings may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file, be sure to select a path that does not have a space in it's name Extracting the update --------------------- Installing this update involves creating a BIOS flash diskette and running the flash program from the diskette. Before you begin, have a blank 1.44 MB diskette ready. 1. Click Start, select Find or Search, then click Files and Folders. 2. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive. 3. Type p8jt02a.exe in the search field, then click Find Now. This will locate the p8jt02a.exe file you just downloaded. 4. Double-click the p8jt02a.exe icon. 5. Follow the onscreen prompts. The necessary files will be extracted to the diskette. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Please make note of any settings you have changed in the Configuration utility. They may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. 2. Put the flash update diskette in the drive and power up the system. 3. You are prompted to select the BIOS update. Press 1. BIOs UPDATE: -A graphical display will display showing the status of the update. DO NOT POWER OFF OR RESTART THE SYSTEM DURING THIS PROCEDURE. 4. The flash update is now complete. remove the diskette first and then press Enter to reboot the system. Serial and Machine type update ------------------------------ If the serial number and machine type need to be updated use DMICFG.EXE in DOS mode. Testing for successful installation ----------------------------------- To verify that the BIOS update was successful, do the following: 1. Click Start. 2. Click Programs. 3. Click Access IBM. 4. Click IBM System Information. If IBM System Information is not installed on your system, install it using your Software Selections CD. 5. Verify that the BIOS version is IBM BIOS ver S21MR02-C2. Flash Changes ------------- P8JTxxA is the flash diskette level. P8KTxxA is the flash image level. (BIOS) NOTE: All changes carry forward.
