Flash BIOS update - bootable diskette version PIKT33A README This package updates the basic input/output system (BIOS) on NetVista(R) model 2251-xxx, 2271-xxx, 6058-xxx, 6059-xxx, 6568-xxx, 6569-xxx, 6578-xxx, 6579-xxx, 6599-xxx, 6647-xxx, 6648-xxx, 6649-xxx, 6650-xxx, 6830-xxx, 6831-xxx, 6840-xxx, and 6841-xxx computers. BIOS is programming that controls low-level hardware operations, including interactions with diskette drives, hard disk drives, and the keyboard. The BIOS is stored on a chip. Your computer uses flash BIOS, which can be updated through a program on a flash diskette so that you do not have to replace the BIOS chip to update the BIOS. This update will take 2MB of space on your hard disk drive (C:). Note: Make note of any settings you have changed in the BIOS Configuration Utility. These settings may have to be re-entered after updating the BIOS. Print this file so that you can refer to it during the installation. Downloading the update ---------------------- 1. Click the file link to download the file from the web page. 2. When prompted, select a drive and directory in which to save the downloaded file. Extracting the update --------------------- Installing this update involves creating a BIOS flash diskette and running the flash program from the diskette. 1. Click Start, highlight Find, then click Files and Folders. 2. Insert a blank 1.44MB floppy diskette into the diskette drive. 3. Type pijt33a.exe in the search box, click Find Now. This will locate the pijt33a.exe file you just downloaded. 4. Double-click the icon for pijt33a.exe. 5. Follow the onscreen prompts. The necessary files will be extracted to the diskette. Installing the update --------------------- 1. Close all open applications. 2. Leave the diskette in the A: drive, and shut down and restart the computer to start the BIOS flash program. You are prompted to select your country. 3. Press enter. The serial number is displayed and you are asked if you would like to update the serial number. 4. Press N. The machine type/model number is displayed. You are asked if you would like to update the model/type. 5. Press N. The current BIOS level is compared with that of the update. If the update is of a greater level than on your system, a message is displayed stating "THE POST/BIOS CODE IN THE SYSTEM IS THE SAME VERSION AS THAT ON THE DISKETTE. PRESS ENTER TO CONTINUE. PRESS ESC TO CANCEL." 6. Press Enter. 7. Once the Flash update is complete and you are prompted to do so, remove the diskette and press enter to reboot the system. WARNING: Do not under any circumstance power off or restart the system during the Flash update procedure. Doing so will critically damage your system. Testing for successful installation ----------------------------------- To verify that the BIOS update was successful, do the following: 1. Click Start, highlight Programs, then click Access IBM. 2. Click IBM System Information. If IBM System Information is not installed on your system, install it using your Software Selections CD. 3. Verify that the BIOS version is IBM BIOS ver PIKT33.0. Updating processor patch without updating BIOS ---------------------------------------------- For those customers who need to use the new processor patch file from Intel for the 933MHz / 1 GHz Pentium III without updating their current level of BIOS. The following steps can be used to write the new processor patch on the old flash update diskette: 1. Obtain the latest level of BIOS update diskette from the IBM Web site ("http://www.ibm.com/pc/support"). 2. Insert the older level BIOS update diskette in the diskette driver and on a DOS command line type "ATTRIB A:0683 -R". 3. Copy the file "0683" from the latest level of BIOS update diskette to the older level's update diskette. 4. Boot the older level's update diskette and follow normal procedures. Flash Changes ------------- PIJTxxA is the flash diskette level. PIKTxxA is the binary image level. (BIOS) NOTE: All changes carry forward. That is, if a change is added in 01, it is also in 02, 03 etc. CHANGES for PIKTxxA/PIJTxxA: PIKT12A/PIJT12A: - Initial Release PIKT13A/PIJT13A: - Last boot device not retained when returning from S4 state - Add Sony HiFD boot support - POV card can be removed in S3 without detection - Add flash under OS support - USB keyboard does not work after bootblock recover - Load processor updates during S3 return PIKT14A/PIJT14A: - Can't bind with POV card - SMBios PCI slot data wrong - Add additional machine types - Can't flash with PIJT13A BIOS PIKT15A/PIJT15A: - Fix hang after removing battery from CMOS PIKT16A/PIJT16A: - Add processor ID 0686 patch - Correct SMBios structures - Reset RTC default values on RTC reset - Fix for ARCO Duplidisk failure PIKT17A/PIJT17A: - Flash OS improvements - Set SVID/SID for all ICH2 functions (HCT9.6 req) - With adaptec raid adapter installed, pc locks - Unable to attach to network due to Int15 C0h value returned - Correct SMBios version reported PIKT18A/PIJT18A: Not released PIKT19A/PIJT19A: Not released PIKT20A/PIJT20A: Not released PIKT21A/PIJT21A: - Integration of BIS code - USB legacy support changes - OS Flash Update for BIS Support - Error occurs while updating PAP while using PXE on LCCM - Win2K not resuming from S3 standby with PIJT17A (caused by SSID change) PIKT22A/PIJT22A: - Enhanced Security Improvement for ACPI S3 Standby mode PIKT23A/PIJT23A: - Update the Remote Lockout Function to be compliant with the latest spec. - Update the Boot Agent Code PIKT24A/PIJT24A: - Added support for SST flash chip. - Corrected boot hang problem with certain USB devices. - Added S3 suspend state when a POV card is present.
