** ** Version: 10/30/97 ** There are several different methods to successfully install NT 3.51, NT 4.0 unattended with the IBM EtherJet ISA Adapter. This diskette is a network installation startup disk built from a Windows NT4.0 server that includes sample answer files contained in the IBMEIWNT directory. The following examples could be as references for your installation. ======================================================================= Please review the Microsoft Resource Kit for NT unattended install procedure. Also please review Microsoft Knowledge Base for some details. (HTTP://WWW.MICROSOFT.COM/KB/): 1. Q155197--Unattended setup parameters for Unattend.txt. 2. Q133349--How to setup a Floppy-Disk-Boot server based install. 8. Q114425--WFWG how to create a boot disk to load a Real Mode network ======================================================================== The first step for the install is to build up a network installation startup disk to make connection between your target client machine and your distribution server. You should choose a distribution server, protocol and client software that meet your network environment to create your startup disk. This sample IBM EtherJet startup disk was built using the following procedure. 1) From a MS-DOS 6.22 client a system diskette was built using the sys a: command. 2) The Network Client Administrator on a Windows NT4.0 server was used to make the Network Installation Startup Disk. The IBM EtherJet adapter is not listed on the Network Adapter Card listing therefore you will need to select any of the adapters listed to build the startup disk then substitute the IBM EtherJet DOS driver in place of the adapter you selected. View the protocol.ini and system.ini from this sample diskette for the necessary substitutions. ======================================================================== **Note use the following drivers contained in the DRIVER directory on this sample diskette for Windows NT3.51 and NT4.0 unattended install. IBMEIMP.SYS ---> NDIS 4 driver for Windows NT4.0 IBMEIMP3.SYS ---> NDIS 3 driver for WIndows NT3.51 For Microsoft NT 3.51 unattended installation. 1. Create an answer file The Windows NT resource Kit contains a file called Windows NT Setup Manager (SETUPMGR.EXE) that can be used to create a new answer file or edit an existing answer file. We provide a sample answer file on this diskette named RUI351.TXT located in directory IBMEIWNT. Make sure there are lines in the network adapter option of your answer file as [NetworkAdapterData] ! AutoNetOption = " IBMEIMP3 " 2. Copy and modify files a) Copy the NT 3.51 resource files to the network share of unattended installation. b) Copy the following files from the IBMEIWNT and DRIVER directories to the server share directory used for unattended install. Server \Shared_Dir\I386 IBMEIMP.HLP RUI351.TXT or use your created answer file IBMEIMP3.SYS DISK1 OEMSETNT.INF Rename OEMSETNT.INF to OEMNADIS.INF c) Edit DOSNET.INF file in your share \I386 directory and add following lines at the end of the [Files] section d1, OEMNADIS.INF d1, IBMEIMP3.SYS d1, IBMEIMP.HLP d) Modify TXTSETUP.SIF in share /I386 and add lines in [Files] section oemnadis.inf = dx,d7,,2,0,0 ibmeimp3.sys = dx,d19,,4,1 ibmeimp.hlp = dx,d4,,2,0,0 e) Modify NTLANMAN.INF in share /I386 ; Original Line below with exclamation point ; set AdapterScrcDir = $ (OEMNetDrive) ; Corrected syntax with exclamation point set AdapterScrcDir = $ (!OEMNetDrive) ** Note In the \Shared_Dir\I386 directory the file NTLANMAN.IN_ has to be expanded to NTLANMAN.INF to be modified. After you modify NTLANMAN.INF rename or delete NTLANMAN.IN_. 3. Start up your workstation with your bootable diskette that can connect to the distribution server share and run WINNT =================================================================== Microsoft NT 4.0 unattended installation. 1. Create an answer file The Windows NT resource Kit contains a file called Windows NT Setup Manager (SETUPMGR.EXE) that can be used to create a new answer file or edit an existing answer file. We provide a sample answer file for NT 4.0 named RUI40.TXT located in directory IBMEIWNT. 2. Copy files to your network resource share. a) Copy the NT 4.0 resource files to the network share of unattended installation. b> Make a directory under DRVLIB.NIC called IBMEIWNT. c) Copy all the latest files: IBMEIMP.SYS, IBMEIMP.HLP and and OEMSETNT.INF to the network share under directory DRVLIB.NIC\IBMEIWNT. These files are contained in the IBMEIWNT and DRIVER directories contained on this diskette. 3. Expand the OEMNADZZ.IN_ in your network share to OEMNADZZ.INF. Edit the OEMNADZZ.INF and add the following lines to the ISA and EISA sections: a> [ISAOptions] IBMEIWNT b> [ISAFilename] drvlib.nic\IBMEIWNT\OEMSETNT.INF c> [ISAOptionsTextENG] IBMEIWNT = "IBM EtherJet ISA Adapter" *** After you have edited OEMNADZZ.INF rename or delete OEMNADZZ.IN_ so the new OEMNADZZ.INF file will be used with the EtherJet Adapter inserted. 4. Start up your workstation with your startup diskette that can connect to the distribution server share and run WINNT.
