IBM PCI ETHERNET ADAPTER RELEASE NOTES ______________________________________ During testing of the IBM PCI Ethernet Adapter, many environments were tested to ensure correct operation. The following sections describe the recommendations that resulted from the testing. SETTING THE ADAPTER DEFAULT VALUES WITH IBM LANAID The LANAID program found on the PCI Ethernet Adapter IBM LANAID Diskette can be used to change the adapter's default values from their factory settings. LANAID does not alter any device driver parameters. Parameters specified during device driver loading will override the default values. DIAGNOSTICS WITH IBM LANAID When a Network Driver has been loaded, a cold boot may be necessary to reset the adapter to a state that LANDAID does not detect the presence of the Network Driver. The LANAID program diagnostics tests leaves the IBM PCI Ethernet Adapter configured for the AUI port at the completion of the diagnostics. In this configuration, the LEDs output will be based on the AUI port connection. The Link Status LED will be inactive. The port connection will remain in the AUI state until a adapter device driver is loaded or the system is rebooted. SETTING THE PCI INTERRUPT IN THE IBM VALUEPOINT P/60D For the IBM ValuePoint P/60D Model 6384, use interrupt 9 for the PCI interrupt. Refer to your computer's documentation for instructions on how to set the PCI interrupt. SETTING THE PCI INTERRUPT IN THE IBM PC 750 P-100 For the IBM PC 750 P-100 Model 6885, do not use interrupt 11 for the PCI interrupt. Refer to your computer's documentation for instructions on how to exclude specific interrupts from being selected by the PCI BIOS. NETWARE ENVIRONMENT In some server machines you may get the following message when you specify the BUSTYPE parameter on the LOAD command: "Specified bus name is not supported." This message does not indicate a problem and will not prevent the driver from loading. You can ensure that the driver loaded successfully by typing "CONFIG" on the NetWare console command line. The parameter DMAPLUS can be used to improve operation in machines where the PCI system bus is heavily loaded. For server machines, specify DMAPLUS as a parameter on the LOAD command. For client machines, specify DMAPLUS as a parameter in the NET.CFG file. With some versions of Netware server you may get the following message when you specify the DMAPLUS parameter on the LOAD command: "Unneeded DMA number ignored." This message does not indicate a problem and will not prevent the driver from loading or the parameter from being recognized.
