Upgrading the 20/40 GB 8mm SCSI Tape Drive: The 2040V38Z.EXE file will self-extract in a new directory by name 2040. Within this directory two self-extracting images will be contained. Expand both files prior to beginning the update procedure. The Expert.EXE will expand to the hard-drive and create a new directory by name Expert73. The 2040boot.EXE will create a bootable diskette. The application currently requires being run in a native DOS environment the supplied bootable diskette contains ASPI drivers for IBM onboard Adaptec controllers if your server has another brand of SCSI Controller update the config.sys file with the appropriate ASPI driver. Please place a fresh diskette in the diskette drive prior to expanding the file. Place the expanded bootable 2040boot diskette in the diskette drive bay and bring power on the system unit. The unit will boot and should bring the user up to a DOS A:\ command prompt. Change directory to the C:\Expert73 directory. Typing EXPERT and pressing the enter key the EXPERT application will be invoked. Instructions for using the EXPERT application: First ensure that tapes have been removed from the tape drive. After pressing ENTER to accept the license agreement. The application will search the SCSI bus to identify devices and list the devices found on the left side of the screen. Highlight the 8900 device and select the F2 key. Options will be listed on the top of the screen. Highlight FIRMWARE and select enter. On the right side of the screen select the 8CM1V38Z.I and select ENTER. The firmware updater will begin its process. DO NOT INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS at any time...the entire flash process takes less than two minutes. After completion the EXPERT application will go back to the initial screen. Pressing ESC and selecting EXIT will end the application. Remove the Bootable diskette and restart the system.
