How to upgrade the IBM 60/120GB 8mm Mammoth Tape drive. (Turn on word wrap for ease of reading.) This page describes the process for upgrading the firmware in the IBM 60/120Gb 8mm Mammoth tape drive. You will need to download the 8ck3v02p.i, and BootM2.exe files to complete this action. ************************************************************************************************* IMPORTANT: REMOVE MEDIA FROM THE TAPE UNIT PRIOR TO PREFORMING THE FIRMWARE UPDATE PROCESS. NEVER POWER INTERUPT A TAPE UNIT DURING THE FIRMWARE LOAD PROCESS OR THE DEVICE WILL BECOME UNUSEABLE. ************************************************************************************************* EXPERT is a DOS-based program that you can use to load firmware over the SCSI bus. Advantages: You can download it from this web site for free. No special cables are required. Disadvantages: You will need to bring down the system. For example, if the tape drive is connected to a Novell server, you must bring down the server, and boot into a DOS environment with ASPI suppport. For convenience a bootable DOS ASPI support diskette has been created and is available as Boot8mm.EXE on the IBM support site. After booting to DOS change to the directory where Expert was extracted and upload the firmware. Note: EXPERT does not run under the Windows NT 32-bit operating system. Therefore, you cannot shell to DOS from Windows NT and use EXPERT. To upgrade your firmware with EXPERT: 1.The Bootm2.exe will self-extract to a diskette. Additionally copy the 8ck3v02p.i file onto another diskette. 2.Boot to the Bootm2 image created. 3.The Expert screen splash will come up. Press a key to accept the license agreement. 4.Select the SCSI controller connected to the M2 then highlight the M2. 4.Select the F2 key to enter the tools section. 5.Insert the diskette with 8ck3v02p.i file in the diskette bay. 6.Select the Firmware Update choice from Expert. Select to the 8ck3v02p.i file. 7.The update process will start. It will notify on completion.
