MWDGAME doc updates - either in README.DOS or in a 2nd readme on the DOS disk. Also for stand-alone descriptor for the BBS -------- **** ADD THIS PARAGRAPH FOR THE BBS DESCRIPTOR FILE *** This is an update to MWDGAME.EXE which increases the level of SoundBlaster compatability for the 3D PCMCIA Sound Card. Copy this file to the existing \MWD\MANAGER directory (back up the existing version of MWDGAME.EXE) and reboot your machine to install. ********************* Many newer games use a sound card interface driver rather than including programming for all available sound cards in the game itself. This updated version of MWDGAME.EXE provides support for two popular sound drivers that are used in games such as Descent, Terminator-Future Shock, Warcraft II, and Steel Panthers. These supported sound drivers are provided by Human Machine Interface Inc. and Miles Design: you may see these names in the sound configuration program for your game. Note that there are some guidelines that must be followed for the 3D PCMCIA Sound Card to work properly with games utilizing these sound drivers. 1. Do not use a memory manager (EMM386, QEMM, etc). If a memory manager is installed a popping sound may be introduced into the game or there may be no sound at all. 2. In the sound card setup program, choose manual selection of sound card settings. Auto-detection schemes may successfully find the proper settings but in general it is better to select settings yourself. Chosen values should match the BLASTER environment variable as specified in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and the MWAVE.INI values. 3. IRQ 7 can not be used with games that use the Miles sound drivers: these games can be identified by looking for several .DIG files in the game's directory path on your hard drive. Other interrupts will work properly.
