Drivers for IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Card (P/N 09N9863, 09N9904, and 09N9906) for Windows 2000 File Contents: --------------- This self-extracting EXE file contains the drivers for the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Card. Instructions are listed below for new installations and for upgrades. Installation Instructions: --------------- 1. Download win2kwl.exe file from the internet or the Cd rom that came with your card. Use Windows Explore to find the win2kwl.exe file that was downloaded from the Cd-rom or the internet and double click on it. A PKSFX Extraction window will appear. Click on the "Extract" button. NOTE (If a window "Create C:\wlan directory?" appears, Click Yes). C:\wlan is the default directory that the file will extract itself into. If you chose to extract to another directory, use that directory in the following instructions instead of "C:\wlan". NEW INSTALLATION OF IBM WIRELESS LAN PC CARD AND DRIVERS: NOTE: The Client Manager Software must be installed prior to the PC Card and driver installation. a) Insert the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Card into the laptop. This should automatically start the Windows Add Hardware Wizard. Click "Next" b) Click "Next" c) Click "Specify the location of the driver" d) Click "Next". e) Enter "C:\wlan". Click "OK" f) Click "Next" g) Follow the on-screen instructions. An "Add/Edit Configuration Profile" window may appear. If so follow steps j1 thru j7 below. h) Click "Finish" i) Click "Yes" to restart you computer if required. j) "Add/Edit Configuration Profile" 1) Click on "Edit" button. 2) Enter the Profile Name. Click "Next" 3) Enter a network name in box provided. (Please see your system administrator for a network name) Click "Next" 4) Enter Security information, if required. Click "Next" 5) Select Power management Option. Click "Next" 6) Select TCP/IP Behavior. Click "Finish" 7) Click "OK" k) An error message may pop-up stating "Can not access your Wireless Card. Please remove and re-insert PC Card to activate settings." Click "OK" to dismiss this dialog box. l) You may see an error message "The Client Manager is not installed!" If you have already installed the Client Manager Software, you may ignore this message. If not, you will need to install the Client Manager Software. m) If the "Add/Edit Configuration Profile" window did not appear during the driver installation, Click on "START" > "PROGRAMS" > "IBM Wireless LAN" > "Configuration Profile" and follow the instructions above for the "Add/Edit Configuration Profile" window. Note 1: When card is installed on an IBM Thinkpad 600, this step will take place after the computer has been restarted. TO UPGRADE THE DRIVERS FOR A CARD YOU HAVE ALREADY INSTALLED: ( Important: Ensure that new driver has been copied to the hard drive. See steps a thru d under New installation of IBM Wireless LAN PC Card and Drivers) a) Click "START" > "SETTINGS" > "CONTROL PANEL" b) Double-click on "System." c) Click the "Hardware" tab. d) Click on "Device Manager." e) Double-click on "Network Adapters" f) Double-click on "IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC card" g) Click on "Driver" tab. h) Click the "Update Driver" button. i) Click the "Next" button. j) Click on "Display a list of known drivers for this device so I can choose a specific driver" radio button. k) Click the "Next" button. l) Click the "Have Disk" button. m) Enter "C:\WLAN". n) Click on "OK". Select: "IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Card", click "Next" o) Follow the on-screen instructions p) An "Add/Edit Configuration Profile" window may appear 1) Click on "Edit" button. 2) Enter the Profile Name. Click "Next" 3) Enter a network name in box provided. (Please see your system administrator for a network name) Click "Next" 4) Enter Security information, if required. Click "Next" 5) Select Power management Option. Click "Next" 6) Select TCP/IP Behavior. Click "Finish" 7) Click "OK" q) Upgrade is complete.
