IBM MultiPort USB Hub September 20, 2000 Drivers for Windows 2000 version 1.00.252 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This README file has the following sections: A. Upgrade Information B. Installation Procedure ----------------------------------------------------------------------- A. Upgrade Information ******* IMPORTANT ******** If you have previously tried to install the IBM USB Multiport Hub in Windows 2000, and the serial port was not working, then you probably installed a Windows 98 driver. In this case, the Windows 98 driver must be uninstalled using the Cleanup.exe program that comes with this installation package BEFORE installing the new Windows 2000 drivers. Cleanup.exe does a much better job at removing all of the old drivers than the uninstall that comes with the Windows 98 drivers. Before beginning the uninstall, be sure to remove the USB hub hardware from Device Manager using the following instructions: 1. Stop the serial and network devices using the systray cardbus icon. 2. Unplug all peripherials from the USB dock. 3. Uninstall the USB dock from Windows Device Manager : A. Right click on the My Computer Icon. B. Scroll down and select Properties. C. Select the Hardware tab. D. Click on Device Manager button. E. Scroll down to the Universal Serial Bus Controllers listing. F. Click on the + symbol if not already expanded. G. Double click on the Generic USB hub listing to enter properties. H. On the General tab under Location it should read IBM USB Dock or IBM Multi-Port USB Hub. I. Click on the Driver tab. J. Click on the Uninstall button at the bottom of page. K. Click OK in the "Confirm Device Removal" window. L. At this point the peripherals that are attached to the dock no longer function. 4. Insert the disk containing the USB dock drivers into the computer's disk drive. 5. Click Start and select Run 6. Type ‘A:\cleanup.exe’ (or the path to the extracted files) and click the OK button. 7. Click the Cleanup button. Note: If you have previously tried to install the IBM USB Multiport Hub in Windows 2000, and the serial port was not working, then you probably installed a Windows 98 driver. On the "Cleanup" menu, select "Remove Windows 98 driver files." 8. Select either the Windows 98 or the Windows 2000 driver files radio button (depending on which driver was previously installed) and click OK. 9. Click OK again. 10. Click the Exit button. 11. The USB Hub drivers have been uninstalled and completely removed from the computer. 12. Reboot the computer. B.
