This section provides instructions for installing the DOS CD-ROM drive device drivers and enabling the ServeRAID Boot CD-ROM feature. 1.10 Installing DOS Device Drivers for CD-ROM Access ----------------------------------------------------- Use the following instructions to install the device drivers needed to access a CD-ROM drive that is attached to an IBM ServeRAID adapter or controller. 1. If DOS is not installed already, install DOS on the startup (boot) drive connected to the ServeRAID adapter or controller. 2. Insert the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/ Monitoring Diskette" into the primary diskette drive; then at the DOS prompt, type: A: 3. Press Enter. Then, type: CD DOS 4. Press Enter. Then, type: UINSTALL 5. Press Enter. Then, follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the installation of the required device drivers and support programs for CD-ROM drive access. 1.20 Enabling the ServeRAID Boot CD-ROM Feature ------------------------------------------------ To enable the ServeRAID Boot CD-ROM feature: 1. Power on the server. 2. When the ServeRAID BIOS message appears, press Ctrl+I. 3. Select Advanced Functions from the Mini-Configurator Menu. 4. Select Boot CD-ROM and INT13 Extensions from the Advanced Functions menu; then, press Enter. 5. Select BIOS Support for Bootable CD_ROM from the Boot CD-ROM Configuration menu. To Enable the Boot CD-ROM feature, make sure the parameter is set to Yes. 6. Select Save Configuration in Adapter on this menu; then, press Enter. 7. Exit from the ServeRAID Mini-Configurator; then, restart the system. ____________________________________________________________________ 2.0 Installing Files for Microsoft Windows NT ______________________________________________ This section provides instructions for installing the ServeRAID device driver for Microsoft Windows NT, the Background Server component for Windows 3.5X, and the Background Server component for Windows 4.0. NOTE: ---- Before you can use bootable CDs with a CD-ROM drive connected to a ServeRAID adapter or controller, you must enable the ServeRAID Boot CD-ROM feature. (See section 1.00 above for more information.) 2.10 Installing the Device Driver for Microsoft Windows NT ----------------------------------------------------------- To install the ServeRAID device driver for Windows NT 1. Insert the Windows NT boot diskette into the diskette drive or insert the bootable Windows NT CD into the CD-ROM drive; then, restart the server. 2. When the message "Setup is inspecting your hardware's configuration..." appears, press the F6 key. 3. When the message "Setup is loading files (drivers)..." and a Windows NT Setup window appears, press 'S' to specify additional devices. 4. When prompted in the next window, select Other from the list. 5. When prompted to insert the "Manufacturer-supplied support disk", insert the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/ Monitoring Diskette" into the diskette drive. 6. Select IBM ServeRAID Adapter; then, press Enter. A message similar to the following will appear. "Setup is loading files (IBM PC ServeRAID Adapter)..." 7. When prompted, press Enter to continue. 8. Use the instructions provided in the Windows NT manual to complete the normal installation process. 9. After you complete the installation, be sure to apply the latest Service Pack. 2.20 Installing the Background Server Component for Windows 3.5X ----------------------------------------------------------------- To install the Background Server component for Windows 3.5X: 1. At a command prompt, type the following to create an IPSRAID directory on the hard disk: MD C:\IPSRAID 2. Press Enter. 3. Insert the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/ Monitoring Diskette" into diskette drive A; then, type the following to copy the IPSADM.EXE file to the IPSRAID directory: COPY A:\REMOTE\SERVERS\NT\IPSADM.EXE C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.EXE 4. Press Enter. 5. Type the following to copy the IPSADM.ICO icon file to the IPSRAID directory: COPY A:\REMOTE\SERVERS\NT\IPSADM.ICO C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.ICO 6. Press Enter. 7. Select a group or create a new group to store the program. For example, open the Administrative Tools Group or create a new program group named IPSADM Admin-Monitor. 8. Click on 'File', click on 'New', click on 'Personal Item', and then click on 'OK'. 9. Type the following information in the data fields: Description: IPSRAID Admin-Monitor Command Line: C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.EXE Working Dir: C:\IPSRAID 10. Click on 'Change Icon'; then, click on 'OK' in the information window. 11. In the Change Icon window type: C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.ICO or, click on 'Browse' and select C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.ICO 12. Click on 'OK' for the icon. 13. Click on 'OK' for the Personal Item. 14. Double-click on the new icon to access the Administration and Monitoring Program. 2.30 Installing the Background Server Component for Windows 4.0X ----------------------------------------------------------------- To install the Background Server component for Windows 4.0X: 1. At a command prompt, type the following to create an IPSRAID directory on the hard disk: MD C:\IPSRAID 2. Press Enter. 3. Insert the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/ Monitoring Diskette" into diskette drive A; then, type the following to copy the IPSADM.EXE file to the IPSRAID directory: COPY A:\REMOTE\SERVERS\NT\IPSADM.EXE C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.EXE 4. Press Enter. 5. Type the following to copy the IPSADM.ICO icon file to the IPSRAID directory: COPY A:\REMOTE\SERVERS\NT\IPSADM.ICO C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.ICO 6. Press Enter. 7. Complete the following steps to create a new program shortcut: a. Right-click on the Desktop, click on 'New', and then click on 'Shortcut'. Or in Explorer, highlight the IPSRAID directory, click on 'File', click on 'New', and then click on 'Shortcut'. b. In the Create Shortcut window type: C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.EXE or, click on 'Browse' and Open the ipsadm.exe file. c. Click on 'Next'. d. In the Select a Title for the Program window, type: IPSRAID Admin-Monitor Server e. Click on 'Finish'. 8. Right-click on the icon, click on 'Properties', and then click on 'Shortcut'. 9. Click on 'Change Icon'. 10. Click on 'OK' in the information window. 11. In the Change Icon window, type: C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.ICO or, click on 'Browse' and select C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.ICO. 12. Click on 'OK' for the icon. 13. Click on 'OK' for the program properties. 14. Double-click on the new icon to access the Administration and Monitoring Program. ____________________________________________________________________ 3.0 Installing Files for Novell NetWare ________________________________________ This section provides instructions for installing the ServeRAID device driver and Background Server component for Novell NetWare versions 3.12 and 4.1X. The NetWare ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Program installs automatically when you install the ServeRAID device driver for NetWare. This section also provides instructions for installing updated ServeRAID files for NetWare. The Administration and Monitoring Program lets you administer and monitor your ServeRAID configuration while your server is fully operational. The Background Server component enables a server that is running NetWare to act as the TCP/IP interface for a remote WIN32-Based client. The client must have the WIN32-based ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Program installed. The WIN32-Based Programs are provided on the "IBM ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Diskette". 3.10 Installing the Device Driver for NetWare 3.12 --------------------------------------------------- The ServeRAID device driver for NetWare, IPSRAID.HAM, is in the NetWare directory on the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/Monitoring Diskette". You can use the INSTALL.BAT, which is also in the NetWare directory on the diskette, to copy all of the required files to your server directory. The INSTALL.BAT file also will modify the STARTUP.NCF file to load necessary NetWare modules. The ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Program for NetWare installs automatically when you use these instructions to install the ServeRAID device driver for NetWare. If you want to install only an updated copy of the administration and monitoring program, refer to "Upgrading the Administration and Monitoring File" below. Use the instructions provided in the NetWare 3.12 manual along with the following instructions to install the ServeRAID device driver and administration and monitoring program while installing NetWare, version 3.12. 1. Type the following at the command prompt to manually create the directory for NetWare: MD SERVER.312 NOTE: SERVER.312 is the default NetWare 3.12 directory. If you are using a different path, be sure to specify the same path throughout the entire NetWare installation process. 2. Press Enter. 3. Change to the SERVER.312 directory on your hard disk; then, insert the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/ Monitoring Diskette" in the diskette drive. 4. At the operating-system prompt, type: A: 5. Press Enter. Then, type: CD NETWARE 6. Press Enter. Then, type: Install 7. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the ServeRAID device driver and program installation. 3.20 Installing the Device Driver for NetWare 4.1X --------------------------------------------------- The ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Program for NetWare installs automatically when you use these instructions to install the ServeRAID device driver for NetWare. If you want to install an updated copy of the ServeRAID files for NetWare 4.1X, refer to "Upgrading the Device Driver for NetWare 4.1X" below. Use the instructions provided in the NetWare 4.1X manual along with the following instructions to install the ServeRAID device driver and administration and monitoring program while installing NetWare, version 4.1X. NOTE: Removable-media devices (such as CD-ROM or tape drives) connected to the same ServeRAID adapter or controller must all have unique SCSI IDs, even when they are connected to different channels. For example, if you have a CD-ROM drive on Channel 1 set to SCSI ID 6, you must not have a tape drive on Channel 2 or Channel 3 of the same ServeRAID adapter or controller set to SCSI ID 6. 1. Use the instructions provided in the NetWare manual to begin the installation. 2. When the "Choose the Server Drivers - Disk Driver" prompt appears during the install process, insert the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/Monitoring Diskette" into the diskette drive. 3. Press the Ins (Insert) key to add a new device driver; then, type: A:\NETWARE 4. Select IPSRAID.HAM from the list of device drivers that appears in the window; then, press Enter. NOTE: The IPSRAID.HAM and support files will be copied to the system volume. 5. Select OK to overwrite the existing CDM files. 6. Follow the instructions in the NetWare manual to complete the installation. 3.30 Installing the Background Server Component for NetWare ------------------------------------------------------------ This section contains the information needed to install the Background Server component for Novell NetWare. NOTES: ----- A. The Background Server component enables the server that is running NetWare to act as the TCP/IP interface for a remote WIN32-Based client. See the README file on the "IBM ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Diskette" for information about the WIN32-Based programs. B. You must install and run the Background Server component if you want to administer a ServeRAID adapter or controller remotely. In addition, the TCP/IP protocol must be running on both the client and the server for the program to connect with the background server. C. At any given time, only one remote session can access ServeRAID adapters or controllers using the Background Server component. It is possible to run multiple Background Server components with each component using a different TCP/IP port; however, to avoid data corruption, you must restrict your administration activities to one remote client and use the other remote clients for monitoring purposes only. To install the Background Server component for NetWare: ------------------------------------------------------ 1. Start your system, if it is not already started. 2. Insert the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/ Monitoring Diskette" into your diskette drive. 3. At the operating-system prompt, type the following to copy the Background Server component to your hard disk: COPY A:\REMOTE\SERVERS\NETWARE\IPSADM.NLM C:\NETWARE 4. Press Enter. 5. Be sure to configure TCP/IP as part of the installation process to allow remote management from a Windows 95 or Windows NT client. Then, to load the remote component type: LOAD IPSADM.NLM NOTES: ----- A. To load the Netware Administration program with Netware SFT III installed, load IPSADM.NLM in the mirrored server engine. The ServeRAID adapters and controllers in the primary and backup servers will appear to the administration and monitoring program as if they were in one server. B. When a rebuild, synchronization, or logical-drive migration is in process, you cannot stop the IPSADM.NLM by pressing the Esc key. To terminate during one of these operations, unload the IPSADM.NLM. 3.40 Upgrading the Device Driver for Netware 4.1X --------------------------------------------------- To upgrade your ServeRAID NetWare device driver and administration and monitoring program: 1. At the server-console prompt, type: LOAD INSTALL 2. Press Enter. 3. Select Driver Options from the Installation Option window; then, press Enter. 4. Select Configure disk and storage device driver from the Driver Options window; then, press Enter. 5. Select Load an Additional Driver from the Additional Driver Actions window. 6. Insert the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/ Monitoring Diskette" into the diskette drive. 7. Press F3; then, type the following path information: A:\NETWARE 8. Select IPSRAID.HAM from the list of device drivers that appears in the window; then, press Enter. 9. Select No when asked if you want to save the exiting files. (These files will be copied from the ServeRAID diskette.) 10. Follow the instructions in the NetWare manual to complete the installation. 3.50 Upgrading the Administration and Monitoring File for NetWare -------------------------------------------------------------------- You can use the following instructions if you want to install an updated version of the ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Program. To install an upgraded ServeRAID NLM: 1. Start your system, if it is not already started. 2. Insert the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/ Monitoring Diskette" in your diskette drive. 3. At the operating-system prompt, type the following to copy the new NLM into the directory in which you installed the NetWare operating system: COPY A:\REMOTE\SERVERS\NETWARE\IPSRADM.NLM C:\NWSERVER NOTE: ----- From a client on the network, copy the NLM into one of the NetWare directories, by typing: COPY A:\REMOTE\SERVERS\NETWARE\IPSRADM.NLM \\SERVER\SYSTEM\IPSRADM.NLM 4. To load the NLM from the system console, type: LOAD C:\NWSERVER\IPSRADM.NLM or LOAD \SYSTEM\IPSRADM.NLM NOTES: ----- A. To load the ServeRAID NLM with NetWare SFT III installed, load IPSRADM.NLM in the mirrored server engine. The ServeRAID adapters and controllers will appear to the administration and monitoring program as if they were in one server. B. Ensure TCP/IP is properly installed under SFT III. Consult the NetWare installation manual for additional information about installing TCP/IP. ____________________________________________________________________ 4.0 Installing Files for OS/2 ______________________________ This section provides instructions for installing the device driver and Background Server component for OS/2. The OS/2 ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Program installs automatically when you install the ServeRAID device driver for OS/2. This program program lets you administer and monitor your ServeRAID configuration while your server is fully operational. The Background Server component enables a server that is running OS/2 to act as the TCP/IP interface for a remote WIN32-Based client. The client must have the WIN32-based ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Program installed. The WIN32-Based Programs are provided on the "IBM ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Diskette". 4.10 Installing the Device Driver for OS/2 ------------------------------------------- You can use the following instructions to install the ServeRAID device driver and administration and monitoring program while installing OS/2 Warp Server. NOTE: If you install these files on a logical drive that has its write policy set to the write-back mode, wait at least 10 seconds after being prompted to press CTRL-ALT-DEL before you actually press the keys. Waiting 10 seconds or longer gives the ServeRAID adapter or controller the time needed to flush all dirty-cache pages out to the hard disk. 1. Make a copy of the "OS/2 Warp Diskette 1". 2. Copy the IPSRAID.ADD file from the OS2 directory on the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/Monitoring Diskette" to the copy of the "OS/2 Warp Diskette 1" that you just made. If there is not enough space, delete files not needed in your installation such as proprietary CD-ROM or SCSI device drivers. Make sure you remove all entries referring to any device drivers you delete from the CONFIG.SYS file. 3. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on your copied version of the "OS/2 Diskette 1" diskette and add the following lines: BASEDEV=IPSRAID.ADD SET COPYFROMFLOPPY=1 4. Install OS/2, but when prompted to insert diskette 1, use your updated copied version of the "OS/2 Diskette 1" diskette. 5. After you complete the OS/2 installation, insert the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/Monitoring Diskette". Then, from an OS/2 Window, type: A: 6. Press Enter. Then, type: DDINSTAL 7. Press Enter. The OS/2 Device Driver Installation window will appear and prompt you for the source and destination drives. The source directory shows where to insert the "IBM ServeRAID Device Driver and Administration/Monitoring Diskette". The destination directory shows where the program will copy the device driver files. 8. Click on 'Install'. The following line will be copied to your CONFIG.SYS file: BASEDEV=IPSRAID.ADD The following ServeRAID files will be copied to the OS/2 subdirectory on your hard disk. IPSRAID.ADD (Device Driver for OS/2) IPSRADM.EXE (Administration and Monitoring Program for OS/2) The following file will be copied to the \OS2\HELP directory: IPSRADM.HLP (This is the help file for the administration and monitoring program) 9. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file and verify that there is only one copy of the line BASEDEV=IPSRAID.ADD. NOTES: ----- A. If you have more than one RAID or SCSI adapter in your system, make sure that the BASEDEV statement for the adapter controlling the startup (boot) device appears before the BASEDEV statements for other RAID or SCSI adapters in the CONFIG.SYS file. B. After you install any service packs, check the path for the IPSRAID.ADD device driver and verify that the correct device driver is installed. 10. Restart the server. 4.20 Starting the Administration and Monitoring Programs for OS/2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- To start the ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Programs for OS/2: 1. Go to the OS/2 subdirectory on the hard disk drive; then, type: IPSRADM [/lf=d:\path\logfile] 2. Press Enter. Make sure that the path you type exists. A path will not be created. NOTES: ----- A. 'Logfile' is where the program will log messages. B. If you omit the '/lf' parameter, the 'IPSRADM.LOG' default file will be created in the OS2 subdirectory to log the program messages. You can define IPSRADM to OS/2 by following these steps: 1. Open the Templates Folder on the OS/2 Desktop. 2. Drag a program template onto the Desktop. A Program Settings window will appear. 3. At the Program page in the Path and File Name field, type: C:\OS2\IPSRADM.EXE 4. In the Parameters field, type: /lf=d:\path\logfile 5. At the General Tab in the Title field, type: ServeRAID 4.30 Installing the Background Server Component for OS/2 --------------------------------------------------------- This section contains the information needed to install the Background Server component for OS/2. NOTES: ----- A. The Background Server component enables the server that is running OS/2 to act as the TCP/IP interface for a remote WIN32-Based client. See the README file on the "IBM ServeRAID Administration and Monitoring Diskette" for information about the WIN32-Based programs. B. You must install and run the Background Server component if you want to administer a ServeRAID adapter or controller remotely. To do this, type: MD C:\IPSRAID 3. Press Enter. 4. Copy the IPSADM.EXE server program file to the IPSRAID directory on your hard disk. To do this, type: COPY A:\REMOTE\SERVERS\OS2\IPSADM.EXE C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.EXE 5. Press Enter. 6. Copy the IPSADM.ICO icon file to the IPSRAID directory on your hard disk. To do this, type: COPY A:\REMOTE\SERVERS\OS2\IPSADM.ICO C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.ICO 7. Press Enter. 8. Complete the following steps to create an application icon: a) Open the Templates Folder from the OS/2 Desktop. b) Drag a program template onto the Desktop. A Program Settings window will appear. c) At the Program Tab in the Path and File Name field, type: C:\IPSRAID\IPSADM.EXE d) Press Enter. e) At the General Tab in the Title field, type: IPSRAID Admin-Monitor f) Click on 'Find' to locate the icon. The Find Objects window will appear. g) In the Name field, type: IPSADM.ICO h) Click on 'Find'.
