This driver must be used with Netware v5.1 or higher NetWare v6 and can be used with Novell Cluster Services (NCS) v1.01 or higher. 1.1 Known Issues / Limitations ------------------------------ 1. When running an Novell NetWare NCS Cluster and a path failure affects the Heartbeat volume you may see the volume moving from the preferred path to the alternate path every few seconds in the SM7client. This is corrected by locating the server that is forcing the heartbeat volume to change paths and verify that any path failures are repaired. If a cluster node was brought online during a path failure the IBM FAStT Host adapter driver may need to be unloaded and reloaded after the volume is returned to the preferred path. 2. If IBMSAN.CDM is unloaded prior to deactivating NSS volumes, I/O integrity errors will be displayed and the volume deactivated. The system must be rebooted for the volumes to be reactivated. To fix this problem, before unloading IBMSAN.CDM, first go to the console and is the following command: NSS /deactivate=all 3. You cannot run 'LIST DEVICES','SCAN FOR NEW DEVICES'or 'SCAN ALL" commands while any of the paths are in a failed state. All paths must be restored before these commands can be issued or the LUNs will be deactivated. 4. If a partially managed device is reported when you open Storage Manager verify that the /PORTNAMES switch is being loaded with the HAM driver load. In certain configurations only 1 UTM LUN may be reported since the FAStT Storage Subsystem controllers use the same WWN and different portnames this will allow proper reporting of the disks. 5. PCI Hot Plug is not supported when the IBMSAN.CDM device driver is in use. 6. The Storage Manager Agent should be unloaded when not used for system configuration. When the Storage Manager Agent is loaded and a fibre path suffers a failure it is possible for the NetWare server to abend. The Storage Manager Agent can be unloaded by following these steps. 1. At the server console type: java -show look for the line "devmgr.versioned.agent.AgentServer.......................QQQ" where QQQ is the process id. 2. At the server console type: java -killQQQ where QQQ is the process id from the java -show command.. 7. If you are running Novell NetWare 6 and have installed the Support Pack 1 you must disable Novell's multi-path solution that is included in Support Pack 1. The first line of the startup.ncf must contain the following: MM Set Multi-path Support = Off This is required since the IBMSAN.CDM device driver controls the fibre multi-path for the IBM FAStT Storage Subsystems. ======================================================================= 2.0 HOW TO INSTALL THE DRIVER ----------------------------- 1. To load the driver, copy the IBMSAN.CDM file to the C:\NWSERVER directory on the server. 2. Edit the C:\NWSERVER\STARTUP.NCF file and make the following changes: a) add the following line after the LOAD SCSIHD.CDM file: LOAD IBMSAN.CDM b) Add the /LUNS (if not already there) and the /ALLPATHS parameters to the QL2200.HAM driver for the FAStT PCI Fibre Channel Adapter. Without these parameters, the alternate paths will be hidden. c) Add the /PORTNAMES parameter to the HAM driver load line. This will allow the proper utilization of the UTM Luns for in-band management. d) Add the /xretry=400 parameter to the HAM driver load line. This will extend the retry count for any I/O command the experiences failure with one of the following SK/ASC/ASCQ codes: 2/04/01 6/8B/02 e) For NetWare 6 add the following if support pack 1 is installed. MM Set Multi-path Support = Off An example C:\NWSERVER\STARTUP.NCF file is as follows: MM set multi-path support = off LOAD MPS14.PSM LOAD IDECD.CDM LOAD SCSIHD.CDM LOAD IBMSAN.CDM LOAD IDEATA.HAM PORT=1F0 INT=E LOAD IPSRAID.HAM SLOT=5 LOAD AIC78U2.HAM SLOT=10005 LOAD AIC78U2.HAM SLOT=10006 LOAD QL2300.HAM SLOT=2 /LUNS /ALLPATHS /PORTNAMES /XRETRY=400 LOAD QL2300.HAM SLOT=1 /LUNS /ALLPATHS /PORTNAMES /XRETRY=400 3. Restart the server for the changes to be made active. ======================================================================= 3.0 DRIVER FUNCTIONS -------------------- 1. Failover between adapters and controllers on as many paths as can be detected. 2. When a failed path is restored, I/O will fail back to the original path. 3. You can create volumes (both native NetWare and NSS partitions) on the shared storage media. 4. You can type LIST DEVICES at the console and see all the device paths, including the inactive paths. ======================================================================= 4.0 Unsupported Configurations ------------------------------ Configurations that are not supported with this level of code are listed below. Fibre Channel loop environments with the IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Hub, machine type 3523, in conjunction with the IBM Fibre Channel Switch, types 2109-S16 or 2109-S8. In this configuration, the hub is connected between the switch and the Fibre Channel RAID Controllers. ======================================================================= 5.0 WEB Sites and Support Phone Number -------------------------------------- 5.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/support 5.2 IBM eServer xSeries Marketing Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/pc/us/eserver/xseries/index.html 5.3 If you have any questions about this update, or problem applying the update go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: http://www.ibm.com/planetwide ======================================================================= 6.0 Trademarks and Notices -------------------------- 6.1 The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM Other company, product, and service names may be trademarks or service marks of others. ======================================================================= 7.0 Disclaimer -------------- 7.1 THIS DOCUMENT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
