IBM Netfinity 7000 System Diskette Version 1.1 Program Description README File This README file contains the latest information about the programs that are on the IBM Netfinity 7000 System Diskette. CONTENTS ________ 1.0 IBM Netfinity 7000 Diagnostics 2.0 Displaying the POST/BIOS Event Log 3.0 Trademarks and Notices 1.0 IBM Netfinity 7000 Diagnostics ___________________________________ The IBM Netfinity 7000 diagnostic programs are designed for testing a 1-way system. The batch file, 7401.BAT, will execute the set of diagnostic tests for this system that does not require manual intervention. If the system is a 2-way, 3-way, or 4-way system, select the appropriate batch file (7402.BAT, 7403.BAT, or 7404.BAT, respectively) to run the diagnostics tests with the correct configuration. Two versions of batch files exist: one set (740x.BAT) for systems with a 512KB Cache, and another set (740x1M.BAT) for systems with a 1MB Cache. A self-extracting executable, HELP.EXE, contains all of the help files for the individual diagnostic modules. When each test completes, ERRORS will flash in red on the screen if the test program encountered any errors. Each error will be logged in the TEST.OUT file. A summary of all test results will be logged in the TEST.SUM file. The IBM Netfinity 7000 diagnostic diskette is a DOS bootable diskette. After DOS is loaded, the 1-way system test (7401.BAT) will automatically be executed. 2.0 Displaying the POST/BIOS Event Log ________________________________________________ The system will put entries in the event POST/BIOS log for the following errors: single and double bit ECC memory errors, Bus timeout, I/O channel checks, Software generated NMI, if memory resize by POST, POST errors, PCI Errors, timeout of failsafe timer, if single bit ECC log is disabled due to too many single bit errors in a short time, error logging disabled due to too many errors in short time, system limit exceeded, watchdog timer reset, hardware configuration at setup, and system configuration was altered by setup. The VIEWLOG.EXE program displays events in the POST/BIOS event log. When you run the program the events in the log are parsed and displayed as text messages. The output will scroll off the screen if the event log many entries. You can redirect the output to a file, by typing: VIEWLOG > ELOG.TXT In this example, the output of VIEWLOG is being redirected to a file called ELOG.TXT. You can use any editor to view this file, which contains the contents of the event log. 3.0 Trademarks and Notices ___________________________ The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM Netfinity OS/2 Microsoft, Windows, and Windows NT are trademarks or registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.
