The following are script files necessary for IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Storage Manager 7. These files change NVSRAM settings in the User Configurable Area of NVSRAM based on special criteria. This area is used to make changes that might be required by a user to satisfy different Operating environments. networkon.scr Enables direct networking to IBM Netfinity FC RAID Controllers networkoff.scr Disables direct networking to IBM Netfinity FC RAID Controllers reseton.scr Enables propagated reset for Microsoft Clustering environments to IBM Netfinity RAID Controllers (required for clustering) resetoff.scr Disables propagated reset for Microsoft Clustering environments to IBM Netfinity RAID Controllers softreseton.scr Enables soft reset setting to IBM Netfinity FC RAID Controllers for Microsoft Clustering environments (required for clustering) softresetoff.scr Disables soft reset setting to IBM Netfinity FC RAID Controllers for Microsoft Clustering environments To execute the script files, users must use the Netfinity Fibre Channel Storage Manager Script Tool Option from the Enterprise Mananagement Tools Menu and choose Editor. You can then load the appropriate script file and run. Users may also modify individual NVSRAM Bytes for specific operating systems. For example, if you are using SCO UnixWare 7 or Netware and want only those LUNs that actually exist to be displayed in the initial scan - With the bytes at location x11 and x24 (x = hex) set to the default ship value of 00, NT, SCO, and Netware work properly but SCO and Netware will show more LUNs in their scan than are actually present. You will only be able to use the real ones and will get an error if you try to use the others. This is not normally a concern but is presented for those who might like to change this behavior. By changing offset x24 to x7F, you will only see the actual LUNs. An example of what you would see in the scan for this case with the default values is in order. If you have 1 storage subsystem with dual controllers and each controller is in active mode with controller A having 2 LUNs and controller B having 1 LUN then when controller A is interrogated, it will report that it has 2 LUNs. It will also report that it sees 1 LUN on controller B. So the OS (SCO or Netware) will then show 3 LUNs for this. When controller B is asked, it will report its one LUN and 2 for controller A. This again is 3 to the OS. In the system scan report there will be 6 LUNs reported. Once you have defined the real drives to the OS such as SDIADD in SCO, then this would no longer be a problem. NOTE: Do not change the values from 00 for an NT host. You may need to set offset 0x1c to hex a4 for SCO. For more information refer to the IBM Netfinity support web site. See Section 5.0. 1.4 Upgrading to Latest NVSRAM File and Requirements ____________________________________________________________________________________________ When upgrading the latest NVSRAM file (NV4766WNT856004.dlp), support for greater than 8 LUNS is required. This NVSRAM file enables paramaters to support this Windows NT feature, but requires additional settings to be made. To support more than 8 LUNS it is required that the Windows NT service pack 5 or greater be installed. There are additional registry parameters that must be set in the IBM Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter as well as disable the miniport's extended LUN mapping. Refer to the host adapter's readme file for the latest information on these settings. NOTE: You should first make the registry changes for the IBM Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter, per instructions below. Next, download the new NVSRAM file. Once the NVSRAM file is downloaded, the system will lose communication with the Fibre Channel Subsystem and report an error. The system must be rebooted before the registry changes take affect and the storage management can communicate with the fibre channel subsystem. To enable service pack 5 or greater support for more than 8 luns, please use the following procedure after installing the service pack: 1. Click on "Start", select "Run", and open the REGEDT32 program. 2. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and follow the tree structure down to the QLogic driver as follows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Services Ql2100 Parameters Device 3. Double click on "LargeLuns:REG_DWORD:0x00" 4. Change the data value from default 0 to 1 5. Exit the Registry Editor, then shutdown and reboot the system for the changes to take affect. 6. Upon rebooting, run the Host Adapter's embedded FastUtil and set the 'Luns per Target' parameter from 8 to 0. Once Windows NT has booted, the storage management will be able to communicate with the fibre channel subsystem. 2.0 Installing IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Storage Manager Updates ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Before following steps listed in the IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Storage Manager for Windows for NT Installation and Support Guide, refer to this section for any updates. 2.1 Migration from 6.22 ____________________________________________________________________________________________ NOTE: Before performing the migration from 6.22, make sure if you have a dual controller configuration, both controllers are in ACTIVE mode AND each controller has ownership of at least one LUN. Otherwise, the Migration could fail. Also, if this is a new installation of the hardware and software, you must first install 6.22 code then perform the migration. NOTE: Please refer to Section 1.4 above to make sure you have enabled your system for Large LUN support (i.e. 32 LUN support) before continuing with the migration. In Chapter 3 of IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Storage Manager for Windows NT Installation and Support Guide, Installing Software in a Standard Configuration, the following changes have been made: 1. Prior to "Install SM7 Migrate" listed on Page 39, add: a. Stop the Disk Array Monitor from the Windows NT Services b. Change Disk Array Monitor Startup Options from Automatic to Manual 2. When performing the Migration steps listed in Chapter 3, replacing the NVSRAM file listed in the pub with the file referenced in Section 1.3 in this Readme (NV. a. When Uploading NVSRAM, perform this step 2 times, in order to guarantee no residual settings remain. 3. After "Upgrade Firmware" and Prior to "Complete the Installation" on page 39,add: a. Change Disk Array Monitor Startup Options back to Automatic from Manual b. Reboot the system for all changes to take affect and to start Disk Array Monitor 4. If this is not a co-existence installation, after Removing version 6.22, you MUST re-install the RDAC component to the server and reboot. In Chapter 4 of IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Storage Manager for Windows NT Installation and Support Guide, Installing Software in a Cluster Server Environment, the following changes have been made: 1. Prior to installing any SM7 Software on any nodes, a. From the Windows NT Services, change Cluster Server Startup Options from Automatic to Manual on all nodes. b. Stop Cluster Server on all nodes in cluster configuration. 2. Shutdown all but one node in the cluster server configuration. 3. From the one remaining node, install: a. IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Storage Manager 7 Client Component b. IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Storage Manager 7 RDAC Driver c. Microsoft (TM) Virtual Machine d. IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Storage Manager 7 Agent Component e. IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Storage Manager 7 Migrate Component 4. Prior to "Install SM7 Migrate" add: a. Stop the Disk Array Monitor from the Windows NT Services b. Change Disk Array Monitor Startup Options from Automatic to Manual 5. Perform the Migration steps listed in Chapter 4, replacing the NVSRAM file listed with the file referenced in Section 1.3 in this Readme. a. When Uploading NVSRAM, perform this step 2 times, in order to guarantee no residual settings remain. 6. After "Upgrade Firmware" and Prior to "Complete the Installation", add: a. Change Disk Array Monitor Startup Options back to Automatic from Manual b. Reboot the system for all changes to take affect and to start Disk Array Monitor 7. If this is an Upgrade and not a Co-existence, Uninstall 6.22 code from this node. After removing version 6.22, you MUST re-install the RDAC component to the server and reboot. 8. Shutdown this one node. 9. Repeat steps 3, 6, 7, and 8 on all remaining nodes, one node at a time. You do NOT have to perform 3-e on any remaining nodes. 10. At this point all nodes should be Shutdown. Start up one node at a time and: a. From Windows NT Services, change Cluster Server Startup Options from Manual to Automatic. b. Start Cluster Server on the node. 3.0 Helpful Hints ____________________________________________________________________________________________ The following are some helpful hints when using IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Storage Manager 7. 1. There is a connector on the back of the storage subsystem above the serial connectors labeled UPS/GPIO. This connector is used for UPS support. More information will be available at a later date to describe the settings and support for this. Please check the website for this information. 2. If you are removing the subsystem from service, it is strongly recommended that the configuration be removed from the disk drives. This can be done by using a 'Reset Configuration' option to delete the configuration information on the drives. This will leave you with the default LUN 0 which you then should delete. Shutdown the controller(s) and drives and remove the drives. Do not restart the controllers again with the drives attached as this will create the default LUN 0 again. 3. In addition to the possible cases of accidentally removing or failing a good drive you should also be aware that this procedure to revive the drive (see IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Storage Manager Help Pages on Recovery Options and the section 'Manual Recovery Options') may need to be used on a drive where automatic copyback from a hotspare did not occur. 4. When implementing clustering environments, it is important that you do NOT set a preferred owner for either the cluster group or the quorum resource. 5. If you need to shutdown either server in a clustered environment, you MUST transfer all resources from that node, to the node which is to remain online BEFORE invoking shutdown. If you are installing software on a machine in a production clustered environment, be aware of the potential for the installation process to automatically shutdown or reboot the machine. Ensure that all resources are transferred away from the machine on which software is being installed, if the possibility exists that the installation will reset the machine. Stop Clustering Service on the server to be shutdown. 4.0 Current Limitations ____________________________________________________________________________________________ The following describes current limitations with the code released and/or support configurations. 4.1 Unsupported Configurations ____________________________________________________________________________________________ The following lists configurations that are currently not being supported with this level of code. 1. Fibre Channel loop environments with the IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Hub in conjunction with the IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel SAN Switch. In this configuration, the hub is connected between the switch and the IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel RAID Controllers. 2.
