In addition, Storage Manager includes controller firmware version 4.00.03 and the latest NVSRAM files for IBM machine types 3526, 3542, and 3552. Refer to the IBM Support Web site for documentation and files necessary for installing IBM FAStT Storage Manager Version 7.02 for Novell NetWare. 1.2 Limitations: 1. The load balancing feature of the IBM FAStT Host Adapter device driver when one IBM FAStT Host Adapter is connected to two IBM FAStT storage subsystem controllers, will not be available until a later release of the IBM FAStT Host Adapter device driver and QLogic Management Suite Java (QMSJ). 2. When creating arrays and logical drives through the Storage Manager application, only one logical drive per array is supported when the Novell Netware MPIO device driver is installed on the host system and the RAID controllers have been configured with the nw_mpio.scr script. 3. The storage subsystem must be managed by the direct management method when the host system is configured with the Novell NetWare MPIO device driver and the RAID controllers have been configured with the nw_mpio.scr script. The direct management method requires that the RAID controllers be connected to the Ethernet network. The RAID controller IP addresses must be configured by a DHCP/BOOTP server. Refer to the Storage Manager Version 7.02 for NetWare Installation and Support Guide for information on supported DHCP/BOOTP servers and management methods. If fixed IP addresses need to be assigned to the RAID controllers, contact the IBM HelpCenter for instructions. 4. Storage Manager will prompt you for a password if all of the drives are removed from the storage subsystem. After removing all logical drives from the storage subsystem or if the controller is powered-on and the logical drives are powered-off, the storage-management software will prompt you for a password when you start the software or attempt to perform protected operations. Any password you enter will fail. The password information is stored on the storage subsystem in a reserved area of each logical drive. Each logical drive stores a mirrored copy of the password data. When there are no drives added to the storage subsystem, the storage management software can not find the password data when you attempt to perform password protected operations. Add one of the logical drives to the storage subsystem and retry the operation. 5. Auto LUN/array transfer is not supported. If a controller fails over the storage subsystems to the alternate controller and the failed controller is replaced and brought back online, then the storage subsystems do not automatically transfer to the preferred controller. This must be done manually by redistributing storage arrays. 6. There are display issues when using 256 color settings. Your windows and online Help will display a brownish hash pattern when you run in 256 color mode. To resolve this problem, run the SM7 application in a higher display mode. 7. When performing a redundancy check (parity scan) from the storage management application, machine type 3542 can take several minutes longer than machine type 3526 and 3552 controller platforms. 1.3 Enhancements: None. 1.4 Prerequisites: : None. 1.5 Dependencies: IBM FAStT Storage Manager Version 7.02 requires machine types 3526, 3542, and 3552 controllers to have at least firmware version 4.x. If the user is installing IBM FAStT Storage Manager Version 7.02 (for Windows 2000) onto a host with machine type 3526 controllers that are at firmware version 3.x, contact IBM Service for instructions on upgrading the controllers to firmware version 4.x. 2.0 Change History ------------------------------ This is the latest release of IBM FAStT Storage Manager Version 7.02 for NetWare 5.1. 2.1 Code levels found in the Netware51 directory 1. QMSJ Version 1.0.33 3.0 Installation and Setup Instructions -------------------------------------------------------- 3.1 Perform the steps to do the following: - Update the IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel PCI Adapter - Update the IBM Netfinity FAStT Host Adapter - Install IBM FAStT Storage Manager Version 7.02 for Novell NetWare. 1. To install or update the driver for the IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel PCI Adapter or the IBM Netfinity FAStT Host Adapter: a. Install the hardware using the documentation that comes with the adapter. b. Install the IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel PCI Host Adapter driver or the IBM Netfinity FAStT Host Adapter driver located on the IBM Support Web site (refer to section 6.1). 2. Install the new Storage Manager Version 7.02 Packages. Refer to the IBM FAStT Storage Manager Version 7.02 for NetWare Installation and Support Guide for a list of installation instructions. 3.2 Refer to the IBM Support Web site for the latest NetWare supported host adapters, device drivers, and updated README. (See Section 6.1). 3.3 Helpful Hints 1. When attempting to manage a storage subsystem where the RAID controller unit does not have access to logical drives Storage Manager will prompt you for a password. This will occur even if no password has been setup. The automatic discovery will locate and identify each storage subsystem as two separate storage subsystems. To prevent this from occurring, ensure that at least one IBM Netfinity FAStT EXP500 Expansion Unit with at least one logical drive is properly attached to the IBM Netfinity FAStT500 RAID Controller Unit in each storage subsystem being managed. Since the RAID controller unit should not be powered on until the expansion units are attached and powered on, this should be done by powering off the RAID controller unit, properly attaching all expansion units, with the drives installed, to the RAID controller unit and powering them on, and then powering the RAID controller unit back on. At this point the storage subsystems can be re-discovered and managed using the FAStT Storage Manager. 2. If you are unable to see the maximum number of drives during "Automatic Configuration", you should be able to use "Manual Configuration" to select individual drives and select the maximum number of drives allowed. 4.0 Configuration Information -------------------------------------------- 4.1 Configuration installation. None. 4.2 Configuration Settings 1. Refer to the IBM FAStT Storage Manager Version 7.02 for NetWare Installation and Support Guide for a list of specific instructions (for example, which scripts need to be applied). 2. Script files for specific configurations Apply appropriate scripts to your storage subsystem based on the instructions provided in the publications or instructions in the operating system README. A description of each script is shown below. - netware5.scr: Enables IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel RAID controllers for Novell NetWare. The NVSRAM configuration setting default is NetWare disabled. - nw_mpio.scr: Enables the failing over of an array (array failover) on the IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel RAID controllers along with the IBM FAStT Host Adapter Multi-path I/0 Novell NetWare device driver. The nw_mpio script enables the auto transfer of an array to the alternate controller when I/O is received on the alternate controller for a logical drive in the array. Note that each array contains only one logical drive. If you have an existing array with multiple logical drives configured per array, contact IBM Help Center prior to running this script. In addition, the nw_mpio script sets the same World Wide Name (WWN) for both RAID Controllers. The NVSRAM configuration setting default is to enable RAID controller failover. - 3526CTLdual.scr: Enables the detection and error reporting for missing or unresponsive controllers in a 3526 Dual RAID controller configuration. If either RAID controller is removed or not responding, it is detected and reported through the Storage Manager. The 3526 NVSRAM default is enabled to detect a missing or unresponsive alternate controller. - 3526CTLsingle.scr: Disables the detection and error reporting of the missing alternate controller in a 3526 single RAID controller configuration. After executing this script, Storage Manager 7.02 will not report the missing alternate RAID controller. The NVSRAM default for machine type 3526 is enabled to detect a missing alternate controller. - 3526EXPdualPS.scr: Enables the detection and error reporting of a missing or unresponsive alternate power supply in an IBM EXP200 Storage Expansion Unit configured with dual power supplies that are attached to machine type 3526. If either storage expansion unit power supply is removed or is not responding, it is detected and reported through Storage Manager. The NVSRAM default for machine type 3526 is enabled to detect a missing or unresponsive alternate power supply in an IBM EXP200 Storage Expansion Unit. - 3526EXPsinglePS.scr: Disables the detection and error reporting of a missing alternate power supply in an IBM EXP200 Storage Expansion Unit configured with a single power supply that is attached to machine type 3526. After executing this script, Storage Manager will not report the missing alternate power supply in an IBM Storage Expansion Unit. The 3526 NVSRAM default is enabled to detect a missing alternate power supply in an IBM EXP200 Storage Expansion Unit. - networkon.scr: Enables direct networking to Fibre Channel RAID controllers. The NVSRAM configuration setting default is network enabled. - networkoff.scr: Disables direct networking to Fibre Channel RAID controllers. The NVSRAM configuration setting default is network disabled. - propreseton.scr: Enables propagated reset for Microsoft clustering environments to Fibre Channel RAID controllers (required for clustering). The NVSRAM configuration setting default is propagated reset enabled. - propresetoff.scr: Disables propagated reset for Microsoft clustering environments to Fibre Channel RAID controllers. The NVSRAM configuration setting default is propagated reset enabled. - softreseton.scr: Enables soft reset setting to Fibre Channel RAID controllers for Microsoft clustering environments (required for clustering). The NVSRAM configuration setting default is soft reset enabled. - softresetoff.scr: Disables soft reset setting to Fibre Channel RAID controllers for Microsoft clustering environments. The NVSRAM configuration setting default is soft reset enabled. - clusteringoff.scr: Disables Fibre Channel RAID controllers for Microsoft Clustering. The NVSRAM configuration setting default is clustering enabled. - clusteringon.scr: Sets up Fibre Channel RAID controllers for Microsoft Clustering. The NVSRAM configuration setting default is clustering enabled. - ReserveReleaseOn.scr: Enables Reserve/Release for unowned LUNs to Fibre Channel RAID controllers. The NVSRAM config- uration setting default is reserve and release enabled. - ReserveReleaseOff.scr: Disables Reserve/Release for unowned LUNs to Fibre Channel RAID controllers. The NVSRAM config- ration setting default is reserve and release enabled. - lun0off.scr: Turns off LUN 0 creation on Fibre Channel RAID controllers. To prevent inadvertent creation of default LUN 0, this script can be downloaded to the controllers. In the event that the controllers attempt to recreate the default LUN 0, this feature will be disabled. The benefit of this script is that the default LUN 0 will not be created over an existing configuration. The NVSRAM configuration setting default which is the creation of LUN 0, is turned off. - lun0on.scr: Turns on LUN 0 creation on IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel RAID Controllers. The NVSRAM configuration setting default which is the creation of LUN 0, is turned off. - WinNT4.scr: Enables IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel RAID Controllers for Windows NT. The NVSRAM configuration setting default for Windows NT is enabled. - Windows2000.scr: Enables IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel RAID Controllers for Windows 2000. The NVSRAM configuration setting default for Windows 2000 is disabled. 4.3 Hardware Status and Information The IBM Netfinity FAStT Host Adapter with device driver version 5.50v and QMSJv1.0.33 for MPO failover must be loaded with new installations of IBM Machine types 3526, 3542, and 3552. 4.4 Unsupported Configurations Configurations that are not supported with this level of code are listed below. 1. Fibre Channel loop environments with the IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Hub, machine type 3523, in conjunction with the IBM Netfinity Fibre Channel Switch, types 2109-S16 or 2109-S8.
