Installation and configuration requires the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD. This CD comes with your server or you can download an ISO image from the IBM Support Web site. Refer to the documentation that comes with your CD-ROM writer for details on how to create a CD from an ISO image. If a CD writer is not available and the CD is lost, defective, or destroyed, contact the IBM HelpCenter for a replacement "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD. 2.0 Change History __________________ 2.1 HostRAID 1.00 __________________________________ o First version support for the Adaptec HostRAID controller o Support for the following operating systems: + Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server + Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition, and Web Edition + Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 2.1 for Intel 32-bit kernels + Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 3 for Intel and AMD 32-bit kernels + SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 (UnitedLinux) o Enhanced functionality in the ServeRAID Manager program: - New user-interface look and feel, featuring the Enterprise view and Physical and Logical device views - Configuration wizard for Adaptec HostRAID controllers o HRCONF command-line tool for HostRAID controllers, providing IPSSEND-like functionality. 3.0 Installation and setup instructions ________________________________________ 3.1 Creating logical drives ____________________________ NOTES: o Skip this step if your HostRAID controller already has been configured with logical drives. o You must create logical drives on the HostRAID controller before you can use it. 1. Insert the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD into the CD-ROM drive; then, turn on the server. 2. The ServeRAID Manager program will start. You will see an Express/Custom choice on the screen. Choose Express to automatically create your logical drives. Choose Custom to manually create your logical drives. 3.2 Installing or updating the device driver _____________________________________________ Install the HostRAID device drivers that are provided on the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD. Refer to the IBM ServeRAID and Adaptec HostRAID Device Driver Installation Instructions (DEVDRV.PDF) in the /BOOKS directory on the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD. 3.3 Installing the ServeRAID Manager _____________________________________ Install the ServeRAID Manager program from the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD or from the IBM Support Web site. Refer to the IBM ServeRAID User's Reference (SRAID.PDF) in the /BOOKS directory on the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD for installation instructions. To install the ServeRAID Manager from the World Wide Web, use the following instructions: 1. Download the Windows version of the ServeRAIDRAID Manager program from the World Wide Web. 2. Double-click on the downloaded file to start the installation. 3. Follow the instructions on the screen to install the program. 3.4 Installing the HRCONF command-line program ________________________________________________ Install the HRCONF command-line program that is provided on the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD. Refer to the IBM ServeRAID User's Reference (SRAID.PDF) in the /BOOKS directory on the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD for installation instructions. 4.0 Troubleshooting tips ________________________ 4.1 General ____________ o If you start a server with the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD in the CD-ROM drive, the following warning message might display: You passed an undefined mode number. Press to see video modes available, to continue or wait 30 secs Press the Spacebar to continue starting the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD. Then, the following message displays and the CD starts: Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel. o If you start a server with the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD in the CD-ROM drive and a "boot:" prompt appears, then one of following might be preventing the CD from starting: o The Caps Lock or Scroll Lock is set. o The Shift or Alt keys are held. Press at the boot prompt to continue starting the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID)" Support CD. o If you start a server with the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD in the CD-ROM drive, and you are unable to eject the CD after exiting the ServeRAID Manager, do the following: 1. Turn off the server. 2. Turn on the server. 3. Press the eject button on the CD-ROM drive. o If you are running DOS applications in protected mode, you must add the following lines to the CONFIG.SYS: device=x:\himem.sys device=x:\emm386.exe NOEMS where x is the drive where DOS is installed. o On a Netfinity server, if your operating system fails to start three times consecutively, the system BIOS will turn off the processor cache. When this happens the "IBM ServeRAID-7e (Adaptec HostRAID) Support" CD behaves unexpectedly. To correct the problem, enter the system BIOS and re-enable the processor cache (or load the default settings). Refer to your system documentation for instructions on entering the system BIOS. o The Caps Lock key is disabled when using the ServeRAID Manager program in startable-CD (bootable-CD) mode. o To repair a failed installation of ServeRAID Manager, uninstall the program (ignoring any errors that might be reported), restart your server, and reinstall the program. o In rare instances, you may encounter a 1607 error while installing ServeRAID Manager. If this happens, make sure the following are true: 1. You are logged in as Administrator. 2. Your OS partition has sufficient space. 3. The hidden 'Installer' directory in the OS directory is not marked Read-only. 4. You are running the installer from a local disk. 5. Your OS has the latest service pack installed. o When you shut down Windows, you may see the message "unexpected shutdown". This message is displayed if the ServeRAID Manager Agent fails to exit within 3 seconds.
