####################################################################### # Silicon Image SiI SATA controller # # Linux Driver (6514) # ####################################################################### NOTE: For non-RAID installation of this driver, create the driver disk as below. As of RHEL 3 Update 1, it is NOT necessary to disable the Open Source Driver as indicated in Step 3 below if you are installing for either the 3114 or 3512 chipset. The current open source driver will not recognize either of these chipsets. Also, the Grub boot loader may be used for a non-RAID installation. 1. OVERVIEW This driver disk adds support for the SiI SATA controller. This driver overrides the Open Source Driver Supported Versions: * RedHat Linux Enterprise Linux 3.0 - Update 1 2. CREATE FLOPPY Under Linux: dd if= of=/dev/fd0 Under MS-DOS Use a program such as rawrite - execute and follow the prompts. rawrite may be obtained freely at http://www.fdos.org/ripcord/rawrite Under Windows: Use a program such as rawwrite for windows or emt4win - execute and follow the prompts. rawwrite for windows may be obtained freely at http://uranus.it.swin.edu.au/~jn/linux/rawwrite.htm 3. INSTALL SOFTWARE . Insert Bootable CDROM . At boot prompt type 'linux dd ' Type 'linux dd hde=nopobre hdg=noprobe' (2 hard drives) or 'linux dd hde=nopobre hdg=noprobe hdi=noprobe hdk=noprobre' (4 hard drives) if RedHat requires kernel to disable the Open Source Driver . Insert Floppy Containing the Driver and follow the installation instructions. * If you get Any Errors or 'hangs' before formatting the Disk Drives see Full Installation. (type CTL-ALT-F4 and CTL-ALT-F5 to see errors, CTL-ALT-F1/F7 are main menus) // changing the RAID from Stripe RAID 0 to mirror RAID 1 may cause this problem * Watch out for typos. Anaconda just ignores them will not disable the Open Source Driver . Currently RAID only supports the LILO bootloader. So Before the last screen 'Congratulations, the installation is complete', type EXIT do the following: a) Type CTL-ALT-F2 to get a window. b) mkdir /ff; mount /dev/fd0 /ff; cd /ff (mount floppy) c) sh ./redhat_EL_3.0_update_boot_loaders.sh (run script) * This script assumes your boot disk is /dev/sda (first controller) See Full Install for details d) go back to EXIT screen (CTL-ALT-F7) and EXIT. NOTE: . To UPGRADE or to just add 'DATA' SATA disk drives see Full Install instructions. 4. GENERAL INFO . If you cat /proc/scsi/SiI6514/* you should see the Driver as reported by the kernel . If you cat /proc/scsi/scsi you should see the your RAID TYPE as reported by the kernel
